first take your dog to the vet for an oral exam. there might be a broken or abcessed tooth that is causing the odor. dog's need regular dental cleanings just as humans do. it's been shown that around 80% of all dogs over the age of 3 years old have some sort of periodontal disease. the bacteria if left untreated can get into the blood stream and can cause kidney, liver and heart damage. the treatment for this will far be more costly than a simple dental cleaning procedure. human toothpaste is just as it says, "human" toothpaste. would you brush your teeth with dog toothpaste? the ingrediants in human brands of toothpaste can be toxic to a dog over time. after the dental cleaning your vet can better instruct you on how to care for your dog's teeth until the dog is due for the next dental cleaning. this is all part of the expense of being a responsible pet owner.

No, don't use human toothpaste, because dogs can't spit the paste out like humans do. Just brush without the toothpaste and put some fresh parsley in the food bowl. Maybe your dog needs a professional teeth cleaning. Check the gums before you start brushing.

,You can but the dog likely won't like it and it could make it hard to brush his teeth with a proper dog toothpaste.
More important is the reason his breath smells so bad. You should look into that as it could mean bad teeth to infected gums. Dogs can get gum diseases the same as people, usually caused by a build up of tarter on their teeth.
Check his teeth and gums and if they look ok, try giving you dog dry dental food and special tooth cleaning chew treats and brushing with dog toothpaste.
If the gums or teeth look bad, you really need to take him to the vet. If left untreated, the teeth may become so loose that the dog can't even eat with them.

I don't know if you've ever brushed a dog's teeth, but they end up swallowing a lot of it. Seeing to the fact that even humans don't swallow human toothpaste, it's probably not a good idea. Dog toothpaste is a little more expensive, but it'll be a lot less expensive than a trip to the vet.

I used to brush my dogs teeth with human toothpaste but there are chemicals that are not good for dogs and might cause poisoning so I stopped using human toothpaste. You could buy the toothpaste that are specially for dogs. They sell them at kmart and if u shop at walmart and in pet shops. they come in flavors of dog food too or you can also buy them mints that are for dogs or cookies that decrease dog breath.

I would not use human toothpaste on her. That is why they sell dog toothpaste. You can get it in the pet care section of your local grocert store or any pet store. The toothpaste for dogs usually comes with a dog toothbrush. They are not really expensive, but if your dog has plaque/breath problems, it is worth it. Also try rawhide bones, chew toys, rope pull toys, breath freshener bones, and also breath freshening foods.

Your vet's office should carry toothpaste and toothbrush for you dog. However if your dog's breath is really bad he/she might need a dental. Your vet can put them under and professionally clean your dogs teeth and extract any if necessary.I used to work in a vet's office and we don't recommend brushing dog's teeth with human toothpaste. It can upset their stomach.

I wouldn't, I don't know what it would do. lt probably wouldn't taste very good to the dog, and it might cause some health problems. You might want to go get him a teeth cleaning at the vet, that way you don't have to deal with the liver scented and flavored toothpaste.
