Which is worse in regards to pay, or working hazards?
On the pay side, corrections will usually be worse off while starting out. If you stay in the corrections field as a career, you can move up pretty quicly, depending on where you work, and you actually can make a good living with it.
As in workign hazards, well it is all up to the person really. I believe that correctional officers have it a little worse than a patrol officer.
On the street, the officer has to worry about different kinds of weapons and threats of violence. However, in a the correctional setting the officer also has to worry about these same things.
There is always a threat of violence in the corrections field because the majority of the inmates are violent offenderes, or are persons that are doing so much time, they do not care about getting added charges or breaking any rules and commiting more acts of violence in the facility.
Not only as a correctional officer will you have to deal with possible weapons and violence, but there is a higher rate of getting into contact with pathogens, whether bloodborne or airborne. In other words, getting some sick germs and catching diseases is really easy in the correctional field.
Either is pretty dangerous, but if you really look at it, the correctional officer is in a lockedown facility where the inmates outnumber the guards at a level of almost 48-50 inmates per one guard. Sometimes you will have more guards, but it rarely gets to the point of getting around 48-50 inmates for every 3 or 4 guards. It is like in the movie "The Last Castle". The colonel says that his men are behind enemy lines at all times. That saying really is true when applied to this situation.

Correction Officers don't go through the screening process that Police Officers do when they go through the hiring process.
Correction Officers don't get the training that Police Officers do.
Correction Officers don't generally have the scruples that Police Officers do.(Though there are crooked Correction Officers as well as crooked Police Officers, you will find more crooked Correction Officers.)
I have both male and female friends that are Corrections Officers and it totally overwhelms me when they tell me of the stuff that Corrections Officers do not only to prisoners but to fellow female non Corrections Officers as well.
Correction Officers don't have the authority that Police Officers do.
Correction Officers are often times known as Police Officer wanna be's because they can not personally or professionally meet the standards of REAL law enforcement and they take the only law enforcement postion they could get.
Both DO put their lives on the lines to protect us but Correction Officers in some respects are in more danger because they don't have the equipment they need when they need it nor do they have the back up that Police Officers have.
Given the choice,I would pick Police Officer over Corrections Officer any day.

I know corrections officers and police officers and the corrections officer makes really good money while the police officer has to work and extra job to make ends meet. In my opinion, police officer would be worse.

Worse in what way? Do you mean which of the two are less desirable as a career? I don't understand your question. I have friends that are corrections officers and friends that are police officers. There are good and bad aspects to both of the the professions.

I'm guessing that the corrections officer is somebody that works with people already in jail...like prison guards or prisoner transports?
I think that both probalby have their ups and downs. A Police Officers job is probably more exciting and has more daily job variety. However, you never know who you are pulling over or what you are walking into and what they may be concealing (weapsons) .
With a corrections officer, you already know who the bad guys are and they are pretty much everybody you are working around. They shouldn't have any weapons on them. From this perspective, I think that the corrections officer position would be a little safer.

worse ? what does that mean? I think correction officers are worse shots, so you might take a chance running from them. But police officers are liars; they always tell the truth and when they try to lie, it doesn't work.

It depends. Correction officers in male prisons have it worse than police officers but correction officers in female prison don't have it as bad. Hey I would work as a C.O. at a woman's prison. All those chicks are desperate for ***k !
