everyone loses at different rates and it depends on how much exercise you do and since you starved yourself as soon as you eat again you may gain a lot of weight cause as soon as you eat your body turns everything into fat because you starved it. But if you keep starving it you will cause yourself some major health problems

Addition we have 12 and 13 year olds in our meeting they come with their Moms and or Dads and they do well on program and it's best to get it off now and learn to be healthy young so the habits will carry into your adult life...Good Luck

WW definitely works; I don't know for a 12 yr old but for me a 23 yr old it has. I've lost over 74 lbs. in 47 weeks. Is that fast enough??? Much of WW is really common sense; I go there to have someone objectively weigh me and keep me honest. Believe me I want it to come off quickly too and it is but remember the ultimate goal is to KEEP the weight off once it's off.

Definitely do not starve yourself. The reason being when you start to eat again it's all going to come back on. I had pneumonia 3 years ago and lost 42 lbs. in a month. I couldn't keep any food down and lost all desire to eat. I was eating a few crackers and some water that month, I even missed Thanksgiving dinner. When I started eating regular foods again, the weight started coming back on.

What I would suggest for you is this:

1) Go back to eating regular foods, make some substitutions such as whole-grain wheat bread, cut out the mayo and halve the side dishes.

2) Reduce, reduce, reduce. A big part of gaining weight is eating too much, not stopping when you should. There's no reason for that third plate of spaghetti just because there's still some in the pot. Same with soda; I now only drink regular soda when I go to a restaurant and I keep it to one glass. I've made it where it's a treat to have Coke. By having less, you're not denying yourself the guilty pleasures. You're going to eat it at some point anyway; by reducing slowly, you will eventually only want one burrito or burger.

3) Make Subway or something like that your fast food option. I still slip up but haven't been to taco bell or mcdonald's in over 4 months. When I do go to McD's or Wendy's, I make sure to get a salad with GRILLED chicken (crispy=fried=fat) I then pour half the dressing packet into the container, seal the lid, and shake the container to spread the dressing around.

4) I dislike water too but I know it's necessary. I used to drink the equivalent of 6-7 cans of Coke a day, now I have max 40 oz. of diet soda and 1-2 bottles of water. Tap is just as good as the bottled stuff; I usually use the same bottle for a week or two.

5) For snacking, get some 100-calorie packs or the small grab-bag size of chips. You're stil eating Chips Ahoy and Oreos, just not as many and in a controlled manner, that is unless you eat the whole box then you might as well get the good (bad) stuff.

And finally 6) EXERCISE...I never lost for awhile cause I would either diet or I would exercise. Start slow, if you hurt yourself you'll be even less mobile than you may be now. As a 12-year old I would get a parent to go walking with you or something supervised. For those older, get something like an iPod or MP3 player that won't skip, start a CD and walk around the neighborhood until it gets near the end of the "disc".

I'm lucky cause where I work in NYC is a bit more than a mile from the train station and I'd rather not take the subways so any time it's not raining I get in at least 2 miles of walking per day. I've built my exercise into my work routine. Also, do an Internet search for different exercises; I've started using light weights, somewhere between 3-5 lbs., and have slowly built up my arm and leg muscles.

I'm not done losing weight but this is what I've been doing. Plateaus and gains will happen but it's important to remember the losses will pile up. I lost the first 50 from March to August (5 months) then I had a 7 week stretch from September to October where I lost and gained the same pound, then I reduced my water and salt and from halloween till now I lost an additional 22 lbs.

Good luck!

Starving yourself--don't ever not eat so that you will loose weight. The body takes what it needs and if you don't give it to the body by food, well it just takes it from some other place in your system. To answer your question, No Weight Watchers does not work kinda fast, but once fat starts coming, it will continue real fast. Its because Weight Watchers teaches you HOW to eat, PORTION-SIZE. You never really are hungry on Weight Watchers, you just eat correctly & you realize why you eat so much (maybe its not just hunger), so you keep the weight off. Have you talked to your doctor about your excess weight problem--there might be a physical reason for your weight problem (thyroid gland, etc.) Don't give up, I know you can do it-I did.

Weight Watches does work, I'm doing it now. But I think they have an age limit. It's not good for children to loose weight (that's what I've heard). You would have to go to a meeting and talk to the leader there. I've been doing WW for 6 months and lost 12kg, don't know how much that is in lbs. Weight loss is best when it happens slowly. The slower you lose weight the more likely it is to stay off. if you can't start WW then the best advice I can give you is eat lean meat, slads, but most importantly, eat smaller meals. And go for walks. Get moving. But yeah, eat smaller meals and you will notice the difference. Starving yourself does not work. Your body will think you are in a famine and will store the fat not get rid of it.
Good luck, and I know how you feel!

Weight Watchers is a GREAT program! It's inexpensive, very flexible, and you'll lose about 1 or 2 pounds per week if you really stick with it. Plus, it really teaches you how to balance your eating for the rest of your life. I love it. (I've lost about 40 pounds on it so far.)

At 12, you'll need your parent or guardian to sign a consent form, but that should be easy enough. You might also want to check out the online version, so you don't have to worry about getting a ride to the meetings. it's www.weightwatchers.com.

Good luck! And congratulations on wanting to lose weight in a healthy way.
