It's normal. All dogs dream, have REM sleep patterns (rapid eye movement), and have a tendency to move or make sounds in their sleep.

This stage of sleep is not deep. They will awaken easily in this stage. It is the stage from which we usually awaken, which is why we tend to remember the dreams just before we wake up. Dogs and humans do not dream during the deepest stage of sleep.

Yes its perfectly normal dont worry sweetie. My dog does that all the time when he is sleeping, he loves to catch mice so he is always scratching at the blankets while he is sleeping and does whine sometimes. I like to think that dog's dream about finding there true love and thats why he licks the blankets while he is sleeping.(:

It is highly normal for dogs/cats to have dreams when they sleep. Especially if they are in a deep sleep - the best thing to do is to let them have their dreams - ever heard the saying "let sleeping dogs lie" . That is precisely my point, if ya wake a dog while it is heavily asleep it can shock it into having a heart attack or it may attack you! It happened to my friends dog - it had a heart attack and died when she woke him up suddenly.

dog are like humans, they do this because they are dreaming. i see that happen with my puppies, but he usually put his lip in a sucking motion and start to suck and twitch. i usually mess with him by putting my finger next to his mouth. he feel it with his lips and start to suck on my finger like crazy. then wakes up thinking that im his mom and that he is getting milk. funny

your dog can be crying because of a memories he had when he was younger. like fighting for food or being left by himself. dont worry to much.

it's perfectely normal. don't worry, my dog has dreams where she starts to bark and whimper and all kinds of things. it's funny to watch her, she wakes up and looks at us like we're insane when we start laughing.
