Well... I can tell you it is possible... by experience!

My bf and i met 5 years ago throu internet... and after one year we couldn´t hide our feelings anymore and we decide to do something about it.. we have been together 4 years now and we are engaged! and we are not even from same continent! Only reason we kept few years apart was because we decided to go on in our universities and graduate.

Whatever your friend decides tell him this... Long distance relationships are extremely hard and they require a higher level of commitment than normal relationship do. Like you are not going to do this just for someone you like... we did it because we fell in love and I knew I couldnt find anyone like him and he felt same way.

Lucky us also... we had facilities to travel.. meaning money... the only problem we had throu this past years was time... since we both were studying and in summer he worked so he could have money the rest of the year it was really hard to spend long period of time together other than summer when I went and new year's holidays when he came before his semester.

So i can´t tell you not to do it and despite what many persons think I cant tell you it doesnt work... because it does and we are so happy together now... but I can tell you for sure it's not easy but if your friend is sure this person can be something special in his life... It is worthy trust me!

Love happens once and it's forever.. we shouldn't miss the chances to be happy right??

Good luck.

P.s.: Im assuming your friend is a guy but if he is not tell her if she decides to go for it they first gotta meet and see if they are everything they think they are... it is really hard to find honest people on internet we were lucky we were honest and when he visited me first time he was really all he said he was. And notice i say when "he visited me first time"... so yes if your friend is a girl he should come to her... It is safer for her to meet him where her family and friends are and he shouldn't stay over with her until she sees he's what he's said. That was our deal to meet first time he came here and he stayed over a hotel.

Ok, from my experience, long distance never works. Especially someone in another country, who I'm assuming your friend has never met! First, you never know who your long-distance boyfriend is hooking up with when you're not there... they could get away with anything. Second, if you don't know the person well, there won't be enough of a bond to stand the pressure of this kind of relationship. Long distance relationships take very much trust, love, talking EVERY day, and care! Good luck...

Please, please no. Especially if your friend doesn't know that other person, please don't do it.

This happened to someone I know. They totally clicked, met on the internet, e-mailed and texted each other messages every day. She thought she found the love of her life and they were talking about getting married before they even met!!!!

Then when she did meet him, he wasn't even nearly the person he acted like he was. A person can really fool you over the internet, the phone, anything, when you haven't met them yet or don't know them very well. They can e-mail you one thing and turn out to be another. Please protect yourself, I wouldn't want anyone else to get hurt.

well over the internet, probably not a good idea. but if you(or your friend or whoev this is about) met this other person a couple times that'd be ok.

As long as it doesn't involve sending money, you can talk to them, but I assume you have never met them which means you don't know who they are. Remain guarded that you don't give out personal information. Until you actually meet that person face to face, you can't totally trust them.
