When you can not control your tears, when you can not sleep at night, when you feel you can not concentrate or enjoy. When you can not relax, when you get angry at everyone including yourself, when you are not looking after yourself in a lot of ways, when you feel everything is dark and gloomy, when you think you are a failure.....If any of these happens to you...I suggest sit down and write down for yourself the things that had made you unhappy during the day and try to find a way to slove them, if someone is abusing you try to saty away from the sourse of abuse, at work at home,if you are stressed out have sometime off, exercise usually helps, try to have a routine , try to sleep well, avoid drinking alcohol, or smoke or using recreational drugs to calm yourself down, try to be kind to yourself.THE MOST important thing try to see a doctor and start an antidepressant, It really helps, Citalopram or ZOLOFT , you need to take the tablet for at least 6 months, every morning, if you feel crying, it is because the chemicals in your brain are not balanced, this happens when you have gone through a lot of stress or because of hormonal problem, such as pregnancy, child birth or premenstrural period. The antidepressant will definitely helps...that is the step 1 thing to do to help you..then every night sit down and write down what has made you upset...try to find differnet ways..if that is a behaviour in you that is causing you problem just modify it..if that is a problem you have now...think about different ways to solve it..give yourself some time..usually time will help to solve ..and i suggest read books that give you positive attitude such as THE GIANT WITHIN (from Anthony Robins).
Hope this helps. and don,t forget everyone get depressed sometime.

Spontaneous crying, sadness, feeling "down in the dumps", suicidal, or self-harming thoughts, irritablitity that last at least 2 weeks. That way, a diagnosis of depressive disorder is made, and not a depressive episode.

Lack of energy
Loss of appetite
Loss of interest in activity's
Recurring thoughts of death
Trouble sleeping

There are more but these are the main ones, if you are feeling suicidal please go to the Emergency Department or contact a crisis hot line in your area, if it is a friend then find a way to talk to them. Good Luck!
