It's great that you're doing your research prior to getting the dog.

Please don't base your decision on a tv dog. Dogs on tv are HIGHLY trained and there is ALWAYS a trainer behind the camera telling the dog what to do every second of the show. Look at Frasier.....that show has a JRT that seems pretty mellow....FAR from the average JRT. TV dogs are working and only doing their jobs and are under the strict control of a trainer at all times.

When I was four my family got an English Bulldog, and she lived until I was eleven. She was BY FAR the best pet and dog ever. If you raise the puppy in a loving environment, you will get lots of love in return. Our English Bulldog was very affectionate and never got violent with anyone, so I would certainly recommend the dog for a family situation!

I own an English Bulldog and they are great with kids. They love everyone and willnever meet a stranger. They are also pretty calm. If you get one you must make sure that they do not over heat it can kill them in a few minutes, and they can overheat very quickly by being out in extreme heat or getting to excited. As long as you are carefull it should not be a problem. Also get a lot of chew toys and crate train. They are super friendly though and love people of all ages.

In my opinion, they are the best family dog you could ever find. They are great with kids. We have 3 bulldogs and a 3 year old daughter. She has grown up with them and loves them to death. They are not pushy with her and they understand they need to be careful.

My brothers was good around his kids but.....they drool and snort and grunt a LOT and that tends to get a little annoying.
