I believe it's an issue, but a stupid fence is not the answer! These people are desparate to leave Mexico, and a fence will not stop them!

no a fence might not, but $100,000 fine and 2 years in jail for hiring them would, and building military bases along the border might help too.

Well, there's that, and there's that little problem where our trade suddenly becomes a lot harder to handle due to a fence, and then there's the part where we blow millions of dollars off the edge for a fence that gets destroyed in hundreds of places by desperate Mexicans who get lucky enough to get their hands on explosives. Oh, and let's not forget those who take boats out or swim at the shorelines to go around the fence, the anger of our ALLIES in Mexico, payment to the people we need to hire to stop desperate Mexicans from blowing the fence up, and all the extra cash we have to make up to pay for the damaged fence.
And after all that wasted cash, illegals would still come into our country at a similar rate as they did when the fence wasn't there.
And just to make an additive, people, if we started electrocuting Mexicans, what do you think the Mexicans would do? That's my point when I say we'll make out allies angry. We lose more trade there. We lose support. We lose the ability to help Mexico solve it's problems, and therefore, we lose the ability to make illegal immigration a lesser problem.

It couldn't hurt. Beside, if it wasn't going to work, why was President Fox so scared about it? He didn't want it because it would be harder for his people to come to America.

BTW, the number of illegal alien criminals crossing has decreased at San Diego - there's a fence there. The fence stops them!!!!!!!!!!

PK, you are an idiot. The wall is not the Berlin Wall because the US and Mexico are not the same country. The Berlin Wall separated ONE COUNTRY. You are as stupid as Mexico's current President. He made that same dumb a** comparison.

Not eliminate, help deter. And look up how well it worked in San Diego and other places it has been tried before you say it won't work. If illegals are limited to tunnels and ladders it will be a manageable flow.

Those who don't want the fence don't WANT to solve the problem.

I don't see you offering any alternatives. And, to repeat myself, there is no such thing as illegal immigration. They are criminals and aliens in this country. They are not immigrants.

A fence is a good start. Armed military personnel and sending every one back over the border without anything more than a quick van ride would help. The inability to get a job or find a home would help too. Not letting their kids into the schools would help. Not giving automatic citizenship to the babies of illegal aliens would also help.

The idea is to make the US as inhospitable to illegal aliens as possible. Make sneaking in difficult and risky. By doing so, you eliminate the incentive.

Well, like I've said before and I'll say again: It wouldn't stop all of them. It would put a huge dent in the pregnant women coming here to have their babies. It would slow down the illegals long enough for us to catch most of them.

It will take more than a fence to solve this problem. We need to enforce our laws, like not employing, housing, or giving benefits to illegals. A fence is a very important part of the solution though, as we have enough illegals to deal with without letting in more.

It depends on what KIND of a fence!!!!
Take, for example, the fence at a prison.
It has razor wire on top of a TALL brick fence, then MORE razor wire on the GROUND in between a SECOND fence, and that TOO has razor wire on top!!!!
AND, there are cameras and guards on patrol!!!

hey, there are more desperate people in the world than Mexicans. Do we let them all in? A fence is a start at controlling our population problems. It's an issue? It's a major f*cking problem! I'm desperate for Mexico to get it's sh!t together.

You're right.. a stupid fence will not work, but a smart one will..sunk in the ground deep enough so the rats can't tunnel under it,high enough, they can't walk over it., and laced with proximity mines (on their side of course) on and under the surface.gaurd towers and razor wire, all built by cheap labor.(illegal immigrants) I have already drawn up the plans and i am convinced it would work..

people are so fed up with the lack of law enforcement by the federal government that they will try anything. I agree. The fence will not stop them from coming.
