Does it offend you, (Jewish or Christians), if/when an Atheist wears a Cross or a Star of David around their neck?

Why/why not?

I'm Jewish and I'm not sure. I guess I'm a bit offended, because our religion is not a fashion statement and it's not an ornament. We believe in it very strongly and try to live it the best we can. The symbol is a reminder of our people and their trials through time, of our religious traditions and our way of life. It just seems to me it's not appropriate. Example (exaggeration of course) but what if someone thought your husband/wife was beautiful and so wanted to have a picture of him/her on their desk or something? Your husband/wife is something you care about very deeply and love with all your heart. Would you want this person to have a picture of the love of your life because s/he is pretty? If the answer is yes, I guess there is no problem.

On the other hand, I'm also not that offended because as long as you treat it with reverence and respect there is no problem. The decision is really up to you. My final answer is I guess I'm not pleased with it, but there's also not too much wrong with it: the decision is really up to you.

Hope this helped + peace

No, it absolutely does NOT offend me.

Many years ago it was thought by many that the only ones who wore crosses were catholics. I'm not catholic but was given a 10kt gold cross with a cultured pearl in the middle as a gift, so I wore it. For a time people would ask if I were catholic. Now, no one asks because a lot of people wear them cause they like em not because they associate them with religion.

I've never been able nor have I tried to figure out what religion a person believes in by what they wear. I know a young teen that wore a star of David and didn't even know what it meant, he just simply liked it. The only time I've personally been able to tell what an individuals religion is, is when they tell me or if they start preaching at me because of something I said, did or wear that offends their beliefs.

At times I fear the politically correct "tolerance" thingy is going to destroy tolerance. Are we to tolerate the intolerant radical Muslins praying in front of a consession stand at a game (they did) or invading our space on an airline flight with loud prayer to Allah (they did)? Are we to tolerate a Muslin cab driver refusing to let a potential customer enter the cab because he has an unopened bottle of wine he just bought, because it offends the Muslin religious beliefs (this happened)? Are we to tolerate the intolerant Atheist insulting christians and trying to remove God from our country, because God and our belief in him offend the atheist (they are)? But we're not to tolerate the cross or star of david being worn by anyone who wants to?

It does not matter what you wear accross your neck that gets you to heaven. Wearing a chain with a cross does not make anyone a chrsitian. If you believe that then you are not a true chrsitian.

What makes you a true christian accepting Jesus as saviour and making Him Lord over your life. If you truely have done this then your life will show it by the fruits taht it gives. A cross is just a peice of metal hanging over your neck.

It will definitely not bother me if an atheist chooses to wear a cross or a star of David round his neck.

people should know what things mean before they go around advertising it. u will look like a christian if u do wear a cross because the cross symbolizes when Christ died on the cross for our sins then rose from the grave 3 days later. If you wear a cross, people will think it means ur a christian so they wouldn't put you in the atheist category.

It is not what is on the outside that makes the man but what is in the heart. A cross is a sacred thing to me. To someone else it just maybe pretty or what was on sale when they went shopping, etc. Whatever the case may be, man looks on the outward appearance but God knows the heart. I does not offend me. My Jesus is not limited to what an atheist or anyone else thinks. Besides, HALLELUJAH!!!!, He is no longer on that cross. May God Bless U.

I kinda do get offend, because how could someone wear a cross when he's not a Christian, non-christians wear crosses just to show off and act like gangsters, like the Christian rappers, so they act like them. I used to have a muslim friend who used to wear a cross, I did ask him why, he then said that he's a gangster. So yes, it's offending, Christianity is not a gangster religion.

I don't think that they should. It is a statement about ones religious believe. When I was an Atheist that would have been the LAST thing that I would wear. It is done in poor taste and you are asking for it. You deserve to have some obnoxious Christian pest the hell out of you. So in that sense it is also rather stupid.

It depends why. I'm Jewish by the way. It's the intention. If it's mockery, I'd be offended. If they just like the symbol feel free to wear it.

It doesn't particuarly offend me, but I can see how it might offend others. It could be seen as mocking a deeply held part of that person's life. For me, I am a christian, and I could care less what other people think about that.
