Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent. It means it dries up the layer of skin you apply it to. It is good for some spot treatments of acne and as facial wash, however not good especially if its more widespread. It can be more harmful to your skin than good, by causing severe drying if used in excess. Acne can be caused by a type of bacteria (Propriobacterium acnes) and to cure it you may need a combination of antibiotics and other drugs such as benzoyl peroxide. Ask your doctor which treatment is best for you.

It does but for those with sensitive skin, it can be too strong. If you use it and find you have dry skin or that your skin gets pink/red and tight, you might want to use it less. One thing that might be better is to use a tea tree oil based cleanser. It washes away the bacteria and isn't as harsh on the skin. You can also get tea tree oil straight and apply it with a cotton ball but it has a strong smell and takes some getting used to. It may also have a drying affect used straight so you'd have to monitor your reaction. You can get these at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods and at many Wal-Marts or Targets.

Yes. It is God's gift to acne. It kills the bacteria on the skin, and helps unclog the pore by removing dead skin. Behold the wonder that is salicylic acid.

It can, but I prefer Benzoyl peroxide, it't found in many acne products

It works in the sense it removes the top layer of skin. So the acne will be closer to the top and will clear sooner.
