I've been a medical transcriptionist for 18 years and have never had a problem; but yesterday I started getting a stinging pain in my left inner forearm near the wrist and I'm worried it's carpal tunnel syndrome.

I had to go through an ergonomics training course when I worked in the medical field . They said to hold up your hand and pull back on your fingers with the other because it stretches out those tendons and is a preventative measure against carpal tunnel.

I don't believe anyone who plays piano has carpal tunnel syndrome, because they learn to raise their wrist when playing. The same thing with typing; don't let the heel of the palm be lower so it forms an angle, but keep the hand and forearm in more of a straight line. Do you know any transcriptionist who plays piano? You don't want to crowd the carpal bones together.

A good exercise I use is to hold your hand up as if you were signaling "stop" to someone, with your palm out and fingers up. Take your other hand and gently pull back on your fingers.

I think the carpal tunnel is on the top of your hand so you may just have a sore muscle if it's on the inner forearm.
