Check with your school on how to sign up. At my school, we had to choose classes with the choices of Honors or AP and then if we were taking more than three AP classes, we had to have the request approved by a committee. Check your schools policies. Also, if you cannot take the AP you wish to take, there is a place online called virtual high school (though I don't know the exact site) where you can take courses. I've heard of someone having around 18 AP credits through the site.

High grades, 90 average and above in all subject areas should make you a candidate for AP classes. You should also go speak with the assistant principal assigned to your grade, and explain to her/him your great interest in ap classes.

In our school, some students are automatically placed in AP classes depending on the academy they are enlisted in or CST [California Standarized Test] test scores.
SAS and AVID academy students are more often easily accepted into AP courses.

Either beg, or have really good grades. Begging did it for me! I simply told my counselor I could handle the load and I was bored in the regular classes. I found no interest whatsoever in the lesser courses. So to stop me from drowing in boredum he put me in AP English. =o) Good Luck!
