My dog is very smart. When I am at home she chews on her bone and that is it. I take her on two 45 minute walks a day, plus we play fetch, but when I leave her on the porch she chews on anything she can(3 folding chairs, grill cover, cell phone charger). When I get home I can see her outside through the sliding glass door. When she first see's me she is excited then as I get closer she starts getting guilty and backs up cause she knows she is about to get in trouble. The problem is I can never catch her in the act so I can punish her. I watch the dog whisperer and I trained her by his methods and she is the best trained dog in the world. Help please.

Matt could you elaborate on a Kong? I put Jalapenos in my food and left it on the floor and now she wont eat human food. I guess I could try something like that on a torn up chair.

put something foul tasting (but not harmful to your dogs health) on its favorite chew items.

First off she (it is a she, right?) is suffering from seperation. She needs a space of her own. A kennel is a great idea. My dog is completly kennel trained. She sleeps in her kennel and when we leave she is in it,but she knows it is her space so sometimes if she is bored or has a special treat she will run to her kennel to eat it or just hang out. It is not cruel at all, in fact it is highly recommended. A few kennel guidelines: A) you will never poo where you sleep. If you get a kennel that in big enough where she can stand and turn around in she will be fine. If you get one too big, that will leave room for..other things. B) Make her comfy. Put a blanket in there for her and a toy or two. Starting off you may want an old blanket cause she may possibly still chew it and you dont want to buy those expensive pillows over and over. C) Stick to it. The first day or so she may whimper, but you have to stick to it and remember it isnt punishment.
As for the Kong...they are great!! They are thick rubber with a hole in the bottom for putting treats. The idea is the dog will be so busy trying to get the treat they will not even notice that you are gone. Perfect for your pooch! I have the same problem with my pup. The Kong will keep her busy for HOURS, honestly! Oh, becareful...the slightest drop of the Kong and it will take your head off...they bounce! FYI, the blue is the best because if she does bite a chunk off (doubt it) it will show up on an X-Ray.
Anywho, good luck and I hope this helped.

its not 100% true that youre not a good trainner to train youre own dog to not do chewing on stuffs . because not like dogs are easy to be a best breeds to be trained so well . some dogs arent as same doing something bad or wrong . maybe youre dog isnt one for you to have . you should go get another dog that can be understand and can be havor to not chew on alot of stuffs that isnt good for pets . i think you should try to buy some dogs chewing toys like rubber ball, squeezing toys or a another chewing bones that will keep her busy with it all day and maybe after that she will stop getting into youre things around the house . next time if there are some things that youre dog dont repose be chew on you should pick them up and put some where else that she cant get it or reach it . because by hearing that youre dog had chewed on cell phone charger , screen window covers isnt healthy to chew or eatting can cause dog heart or liver problem and might kill youre dog after all.

Sprinkle the stuff with chilli pepper like cayanne, or pepper oil... Look! Dogs, especially puppies need to chew a lot to have healthy teeth, so get her something healthy and safe to chew on. Praise her when she chews the good thing, and tell her sharply NO when she goes for the bad thing. Also dogs are pretty smart mammals, and they get bored being home alone for long periods of time. Play with her more, take her out more. If you have to leave her shut up, then make the area doggie safe. They will also dig holes if you leave them in the yard too much. They need friends and they need to play as much as you do.

I'd buy a crate and when you are not home crate her. Make sure you put a toy in the crate so she has something to do. It sound like it's in her best interest! I have worked in a vet's office and the last thing you want is for her to get a blockage from something she has chewed up! I have heard of people spraying vinegar on what they don't want them to chew on, or bitter apple.Carefull of staining!

Get lots of toys for your dog to chew on. You could either get a crate or get a long chain you could tie her up so she has some freedom to walk around and place her chew toys around so she has something to occupy her.
My cousin has a large labrador and he has a really good kennel and during the day they attach a chain to his collar which is attached to the kennel so that Harry can wonder round a bit and also shelter in the kennel.

According to the source below, chewing is one of the top 10 behavior problems of dogs...they require a registration for more information...it appears to be free information.
Is the dog still teething? Also, see separation anxiety behaviors. Since the type or breed of dog was not specified, it is hard to determine if the behavior may be inbred. Certain large dogs (especially) have shredding tendencies due to their natural breed traits. Afghan Hounds, for example, may destroy a sofa due to their inbred tendency to shred .. not being addressed with items that are designed for them to 'tear up'. They were bred to hunt and kill deer...often shredding the animal. So, finding a large cushion that they may shred at will was an effective way to discourage the shredding of the family furniture.
Perhaps the type / breed of dog is incompatible to you and your lifestyle.

Use a crate when you are not able to supervise your dog especially if she is chewing and destroying things in your house. This will not only prevent her from destroying your house but it will also prevent the possibility of her hurting herself in case she ingests something that is not edible.
