yes and no.
sacred writings are/were written to appeal to us and provoke us to look within ourselves, and see what we'll find (perhaps a spirit, or perhaps emptiness).
i find the better teachings are the ones that use logical methods to teach spiritual 'values'. (ie: the parables of jesus), tho' some teachings are equally as valid by using illogical allegories (the tao).
other spiritual pursuits don't use writings at all, instead relying on symbols and colors combined 'intuition'(the tarot).
to each his own, mate.

Spirituality and religion are completely illogical. Then again, so are art and love, and I enjoy both of those. Don't let a little logical inconsistency get in the way of believing what you want (just don't pretend there's a logic behind it, or you'll look foolish - have you read what people have been posting around here?).
The written word is one of the oldest methods for preserving information. That's why it's the primary means of passing down religious traditions and practices. The written word also doesn't have to be logical - Flying cheese radioactive meat biscuit.

No actually in some ways human logic would allow us to believe in God. Picture yourself on a deserted island with only a few others. You were born there and have lived there all your life. You as an individual would be able to see signs around you that there is some higher power. Your human logic would tell you there is something that created you and all the things around.
Now at days people get all jumbled up with science and think into things way way too much. Go back to human instinct and basic human logic. There is a God out there.

Written Words... interesting way you phrased that .
The bible says, "in the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God and the WORD was God."
"In Him was life and the life was the light of men."
" And the light shined in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not."
"But to those who believe, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God."
These verses are in the book of John.
God SAID, "let their be light." and BANG!!! There was light. [that's one man's version of the Big Bang theory I heard recently] This verse is in the book of Genesis.
I do not know God through logic. I know Him through a 'leap of faith.' And that is a spiritual thing.
"By grace are ye saved through FAITH and that not of yourselves, lest any man should boast," the bible says.
There is however logic as well. Many of the happenings in the bible are logical. Those who are looking to judge God often miss the logic of it all. I think spirit and logic work together. The geneoligies, from Abraham to Christ are logical events to me and make much more sense to me historically than the idea of Darwin's theory. I can trace my race all the way back to the geneologies. There is much more reason for me to believe that, than to believe that because a few bones have been found that some people have used to draw a conclusion that our ancestors are apes.
I could say more but I'm tired and that's enough for now.
Cathy out. [Good question]

Well the written words are not logic are they?
They are more like poetry appealing to the other aspects of a person

our creator gave us the "LOGIC" to be able to form what we call "language" and communicate. it's the same tool that we are thankful for, for learning how to slice the bread. So is there something to logic that pertains to spirituality? practice logic and do the math.

It's not. Most believers actually see and feel the presence of their worshiped entity, or else they eventually fall away. Just go to a Christian book-store.

(1Corinthians 1:25) Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
(1Co 2:14) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

God uses the foolish things of this world, not the illogical, to confound the wise of the world.

I am happy that I have the Bible, that helps me to communicate with my Lord. He really talks to me through the Word of God.
