Its not as easy as all that. I'll explain why as simply as possible..,
#1. God is not a man. To look directly upon God would kill a human being because he is beyond what our finite minds can handle. He could only be seen through a figure often referred to in the Old Testament as, The Angel of the Lord.., and was often spoken to and acknowledged as if God - this figure being a direct image of God, acting as God and spoke what God told him as if it were his very words.
#2. The Angel of the Lord (mentioned above) was with God in the beginning, the first of all creation. He was born as a human, becoming God's own Son in the spiritual sense and literal sense - and in essence was God with mankind because of his representative status. His human name? Jesus.
#3. Jesus had a duty to perform - preach the gospel and serve as the ark of the New Covenant, and a Sacrifice of all Sacrifices, a sacrifice that would end all blood shed of animals in religious ceremonial sin cleansing. Having done that - he rose from the dead on the 3rd day - a requirement to fulfill old testament prophecies.
#4. Jesus had only a few short days to remain on the Earth after his death and resurrection before he ascended to the Father and he made the most of that time on this earth, preparing his followers and strengthening them.
#5. After his ascension into heaven, he must remain there until the time God sends him out to battle the Antichrist and reclaim Earth for 1000 years. This is something that can not change, not for the want of one man or a hundred thousand. God is his absolute ruler.
#6. Some things God may change his mind on - but this is not one of them. Prophecy must be adhered to or else it becomes unreliable and completely suspect.
#7. God is not subservient to mankind to bow to mankind's will. Therefore he is not going to do what mankind demands of him. The thing created (we humans) do not have the right to say to Him who Created it. what he must do. It is the thing created that must comply with the wishes of the Creator - IF - the thing created wants to truly see God, which can not take place till all things are fulfilled.
Sorry about the lengthy answer here - but trust me..., its the short.., simplified version.

God never showed himself to people. In fact when Moses asked to see God he told him he could not and proved it by showing his face to a mountain and that mountain crumbled. God is not like anything you have ever or will ever see.
Those who will believe will believe. People who believe understand that just as you clearly understand you computer, your car, your house and your clothes all had to be made by someone. This world is far to complex to make it self. God Guides those who understand this to his path. This world is a test. God is not a court, he is not a human judge. He knows what is in your heart and your intentions. If you try to understand God on human terms you will end up lost.
God has over and over proven his presence only to see that even with proof those who are destine to disbelieve still do and ask for more proof. And when he sent Messengers each time they were persecuted, disbelieved and people tried (and sometimes succeeded) corrupting the message. So he stopped proving himself and focused on guideing those who believe spirituly from the inside. God guides those whom he pleases and misguides who he pleases.

This is a good question. God has worked many signs and miracles even in our own time. Jesus+ who is the appearance of God in human form, lived, died and was resurrected and that hasn't silenced the atheists. But they say there really are no true atheists, just people who want something they can't have, proof of God. There are physical signs on earth right now:
1. The Shroud of Turin, the burial cloth of Jesus
2. The Holy Land itself is marked out with the Way of the Cross and all of the shrines of His Birth, Tomb, etc that are historical places for thousands of years.
3. God said in a parable told by Jesus that even if a man were to rise from the dead, no one would believe him. And Lazarus did!
And still most people failed to recognize Jesus as the Son of God.
While God works signs to help us to have Faith, He does not give proof of God, because Creation itself is proof of God. No one can make the universe and humankind, or even any living being from scratch. Watching the miraculous development of a child in the womb is proof of God!
Why does God want Faith? So He can lead us to heaven, because without it we can't go there.
The Blessed Mother appeared at Fatima in 1917. She gave three children some secrets and a miracle as a sign. Over 70,000 people reported seeing the sun fall from the sky, dry the earth of rain and return to the sky within several minutes. One of the promises of Our Lady of Fatima was that if the Pope consecrated Russia to her heart, Communism would end. When an assasins bullet pierced John Paul II he laid at death's door. He said that the Holy Mother came to him in his near death repose, and asked him to return to the earth and perform this consecration to her heart. After this, the Pope did perform the consecration with the Bishops of the Church, in fact consecrated the whole earth, not just Russia. Soon after the Berlin Wall fell.
The Pope put the bullet into the crown of the statue Our Lady of Fatima at Fatima, Portugal as a holy relic of her intervention in his death.
These things are documented historically, by several accounts.
What signs can our Lord give to help us if we can't believe what we have witnessed already? See the documentary movie at the link below, about Fatima. Perhaps to silence the atheist is to miss the opportunity to share our faith.

That's why it's called faith. God gives us a choice whether to believe in His word, the bible, or not. He promises whoever seeks, will find. God doesn't put nets under anyone's feet. He isn't tricky. He does not withhold knowledge. But He also allows a person to reject Him if they choose.
In the bible, there was a story of a rich man who had died and gone to hell. He was asking that he would be allowed to go back and warn his living relatives of what was ahead if they denied God. He was told, if they do not believe what the prophets have told them, they would not even believe one come back from the dead.
The "evidence" is there if a heart wishes to see. If it does not, nothing could convince it.

I don't think that God ever did appear in the sense that you are probably thinking to all humans at once. He only spoke to certain people in certain ways, and actually He is still doing that. He did appear to everybody when He came to earth in the form of a human, and many people still rejected Him. And He does not have to prove Himself to anybody. Besides, we all like for the atheists to make idiots of themselves. We enjoy answering the questions, even though they cannot always seem to understand, because they are thinking in terms of science, instead of spirituality.

Why must you silence anyone who doesn't share the same ideas and opinions as you, how arrogant and aggressive.
More reason why we need a secular state as a buffer against any one religion with political ambitions taking over the country and imposing it's law on us all.

No human has ever dealt directly with God the Father himself. They dealt with Christ God the Son before he came in the flesh and afterwards they dealt with angels. We are too vile for God the Father to deal with us, he would kill us on the spot if he had to.

Don't need concrete proof in court either. Just have to create REASONABLE DOUBT to get someone off on ANY charge.
If you cannot convict someone beyond the SHADOW of a doubt, they get innocent vote.
Show me beyond the shadow of a doubt he doesn't exist....hmmmmm
Jesus is my savior
