Well what ever you do don't tell him about that other guy you are head over heals for. The best way for him because of his temper is to do it slowly. He calls you wants to do something just say no you don't feel like it. Don't call him back a couple times then just tell him it isn't working. He will respond better if you drag it out a little.

The only fair, decent, way to do this is make it quick and clean.

Most guys make it very hard to dump them. They don't quite hear you, they argue, they beg. Its awful. Some will get violent, because their male ego is really being bruised and they are so immature. So you have to protect yourself.

Don't blame. Don't explain. Don't back away from your intent.

Just say "This isn't working out for me. I won't be seeing you any more. There is nothing wrong with you, its only that you are not the person I want to share my life with. "

If possible, do this face to face. But do it in a public place (a cafe?) where you can then just get up and walk away. If you have any reason to fear his reaction, get a new, unlisted, phone number and do it on the phone. And get out of town for a couple of days.

Have a friend or two support you through this. Call her, or them, to say you are about to do it, and call again to confirm. Don't encourage them to make a 'win-lose' game out of this with you the winner. You won't feel great about it later because it diminishes you to diminish someone you have been close to.

Lots of luck.

Since you asked, I'd prefer break up sex.

Really, just be honest. If you lie, it will just come back to haunt you later. If he was a decent BF he deserves to hear the truth. If he wasn't, he doesn't deserve any explaination, just tell him to bugger off!

My favorite breakup was as follows:
My gf took me to a secluded area where we made out until she pulled away suddenly and told me it wasn't working. I was still wowed so it didn't hurt too bad... and we ended up making out afterward as well but she was right... it wasn't working, so it was our last kiss. Which is actually alright if you know it is the last.

Be HONEST with him!! If it's something lacking in your relationship or even if another guy has caught your interest, most lIkely he will admire you for being open about it, and will be more likely to remain friends thereafter

Eek... Ultimately you arent happy in the relationship, and that you want to see other people. Thats what you need to tell him even though its tough.

That's like how would you like to be stabbed. How would you like to be whipped? How would you like to be thrown off of the cliff of happiness? We obviously wouldn't. Just do it in person. It's best.

seriously, this is an impossible question to ask. that's like asking if i want to chop of my left arm or my right one. i'd rather not, if it's all the same to you.
