It takes courage to say that you will not fight -- especially if you are a soldier. As more members of the U.S. military step forward for peace, the peace movement must step forward to support them.

Large numbers are now refusing to serve: The Department of Defense estimates that there are about 8,000 AWOL service members. The GI Rights Hotline (800-394-9544) is currently receiving about 3,000 calls a month.

Most importantly, a growing number of soldiers are speaking out, against the illegality and immorality of the Iraq war and the orders they are being told to carry out. These brave men and women are risking jail time and their futures to stand up against the war.

"Funny, I get the military news and have seen nothing posted, especially the numbers you are quoting."

testimony to how brainwashed you are. OF COURSE the military news isn't going to print it!

I copied the facts cited from government websites.

If you can't deal with reality, sorry, but that is why also you cannot see that we are invaders, occupiers, Imperialists not defenders of our country in any way shape or form... we are the aggressor and "the decider" will send you right where he wants you... killing for corporate interest that neither helps your family or mine, but loads tha pockets of the elite.

risking your life for that is dishonorable. Protesting it as many patriots in the US have and always will is the honorable choice in this situation.

You must disobey orders when the one giving them has gone mad (or drunk for that matter, his brain is fried).

It was a mistake. Wouldn't do it again ever not with this "leader" there is more to the picture and I care about my neighbors (Americans) not the elitist scum who fight us harder than they do the inurgency in Iraq, scamming, lying, economically exploiting us, cutting benefits, neglecting... all that.

I am a proud American and I understand the history of this country, to protest is American, to revolt against injustice in the name of freedom is American, and the Bush Administration (and the current Democrats too) are trying to take away our freedoms and to force our National Guard (of all people) to act as an occupying force (killing innocents daily) to create corporate wealth and hegemony over the globe.

resist it.

Logic would say not to join the military if you don't want to go to war.

No.

Except for the 800 number your statement looks and reads like you copied it from a 1968 Vietnam War anti-war flyer.

I always laugh when when people, people like you spout off about the "peace movement". You make it sound like there is a "war movement".

Speaking as a former soldier I can guarantee you that the last person who wants a war is a soldier (sailor, airman, marine and members of the Coast Guard). They are the ones that die. But the reason you are wrong about "large numbers" refusing to serve is that members of the military understand about honor, commitment, service, dedication and keeping their word.

By the way, I checked out your website (see I am capable of considering an opposing view point...are you?). Your statement is copied word for word from the website. Did you write the original copy or just copy the original without giving credit to the person who wrote it. Is Senator Biden your hero?

You are SO confused it's not even funny. Large numbers are speaking out? Funny, I get the military news and have seen nothing posted, especially the numbers you are quoting. Also, none of my friends who are still in, are saying anything against this/these wars.

Think about this for a moment. Can you do that? Think? It's June, 1944. Gen. Eisenhower has made the final decision, D Day is a go. Can you just imagine where we'd be today had the military refused the "Order?"

This war, either of them, is/are not illegal. You blatantly choose to ignore facts. Historical facts. I suspect that to actually look at and acknowledge the true facts would be too upsetting to your fantasy paradigm.

Do you know what the word "Sedition" means? You should look it up some time and see where it applies here.

You are lame and so are your pals on the 27th. It doesn't take courage to say you won't fight. You can hide behind the fact that you protest a war, but it's cowardly and it's wrong to do so. Those AWOLs signed up with the military to do a job fully knowing that there might be a chance they need to pick up arms. Jumping ship now is cowardice. You/me/we elected people to government office to handle foreign relations.........let them fix the problem, and let the soldiers do their job as they must. But don't try to justify cowardice by saying the war is illegal and immoral. It's not your place or mine to pass judgement as far as that is concerned. Bush will be gone soon enough. But also remember that Bush didn't do this all by himself. Even your beloved Dems agreed on this war in the beginning.

As a Vet of both Gulf 1, Bosnia, and 3 Ops in Africa.
They KNEW what they were in for when they signed up. NO I will not be protesting the President. Those who serve for the most part are doing their job with little or NO compliants, besides the grumblings you always get. Soldiers grumble that's a fact. And I would remind ANYONE who does protest, Thank the Soldiers that you are Protesting. THEIR SERVICE GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM!!!!!!!!

No, and neither is the majority of America.

Funny, the last "Million Mom March" was only like... 1000 people.

Good thing the media got a closeup of that small crowd and didn't pan back to show how empty Washington DC was.

Hippies are just trying to make a comeback. Knock it off and get back to work.

Nope, I have no problem with the way the President is conducting the war, and I seriously doubt the figures you're presenting as fact. You must be listening to too myuch Air America or some other brain-rotting crap.

No, I'm part of the counter-protest. I'll see you there.

I think your figure of 8,000 AWOL soldiers isn't much different than pre-war numbers. Then again, it's your weed, you can smoke what you want.

Are these "brave men" like the ones who are the previously-exposed frauds and head cases? Are they like John F Kerry, who made up his stories out of whole cloth? I mean, give me the list, and I'll tell you which camp they belong to.

Where were you in 1990, when this war started???

Those men and women are over there fighting for the freedom you enjoy to sit back in your chair and tell them to go to Hell. You personally make me sick. There is nothing illegal about this war. You just remember your place when the enemy is knocking on your doorstep and you wonder why no one is there to help you.
