because on every tv show and most commercials (excluding christian ones) they break the Ten Commandments, like people having affairs or sex before marriage, swearing, cheating, disrespecting others, gossip, lying, making the tv a god because ur so intuned to it that u dont focus on living for God. pretty much, the tv will defile the watcher, the subconcious mind does become like what its being fed through the senses. people cant control their subconious, but it controls them. so once they start seeing on tv all these 'fun' things, they dont nesecarily (sp?) see whats so wrong about it, because it just keeps being spread.

so, the tv will hypnotize and corrupt.

I'm not COG but I can think of some good spiritual reasons not to watch television.
TV induces a light trance, in which judgement is suspended and people are suceptible to suggestion. Many of the suggestions received via TV are not good.
They are along the lines of, buy this or that and you'll be happy; hate this or that group so you can be a good citizen; fear this or that body odor, disease, enemy nation, etc, rather than trust God and make the best of one's life, etc.

I'm an agnostic and I don't believe in watching television. I can't imagine a greater waste of time than sitting in front of the tube, while streams of mediocrity and misinformation flow endlessly at me.

Turn the damn thing off and read.

It depends on which church you are talking about. For instance, I use to own a condo that was filled with Dutch Reformers who actually banned their congregation from watching TV because they considered it as being evil! Furthermore, these pricks mismanaged the condo strata, causing myself, and perhaps a few other people in the building, to absorb the cost of balcony repairs through gross negligent practises! Furthermore, I had trouble selling this piece of crap for a place because of certain renters and garbage that I had to put up with, thus racking up my credit cards and debt. Furthermore, what's really interesting, is that someone on the same floor was able to sell their condo for $30K more than my condo and I also have evidence that fraudulent practises were practised in the sale of this place! Furthermore, I was denied consolidation of my debts due to these kind of practices while other people with more debt and home equity were accepted and allowed to have their debts consolidated! Furthermore, a lot of these people in this church have an intersting habbit of going out during regular days and practising swinging (wife swapping)!

It's a bad influence perhaps?? Not really sure... just a guess. most legalistic churches like that believe that we can do things to gain better favor with God... They believe that good works are a requirement for God to like you... Which isn't true.

Because it is not the church of God.

There was no TV around in the beginning. Now on the Sabbath day you are not aloud to watch TV any other time is OK.

Because there are still a few independent channels left. TV won't be safe until COG controls all the content.

Because TV is a piece of technology. And since technology is a part of science, Christians think that Satan is using it to trick people. Therefore, it's bad.
