Yes, Catholics believe in hell.
+ Hell +
Hell is the state of complete and final self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed, reserved for those who refuse by their own free choice to believe and be converted from sin, even to the end of their lives
No one really knows what hell is like. It has been described by people who have not been there as everything from flames to a frozen lake (Dante).

+ Purgatory +
Are you perfect now? Most people would say no.
Will you be perfect in heaven? Most people believe yes.
Purgatory (or purgation) is the process of God's love changing our imperfect selves into perfect beings.
Depending on the amount of change needed by different people this can be an easy or slightly harder process.
Everyone in purgatory is on their way to heaven.
I don't think Mother Teresa of Calcutta had a very hard time of it.

+ With love in Christ.

They believe you can get prayed OUT of purgatory and into heaven, so I guess technically they really DO NOT believe in hell.

Yes, they believe in Hell, and I have great news for them-there is no such place or mention of it in the original scriptures. The word Hades and Sheol, which means the common grave of mankind , was translated by some Bibles to say Hell to scare people into coming into the churches and giving moneys to them. There is heaven for the first fruits of mankind-144,000, and the rest of the righteous will live right here on earth after the resurrection. Those that are wicked will simply be destroyed in the Great Tribulation and those that died wicked will not be resurrected to anything, but forgotten by God....KECK

Hell is eternal separation from God. It is much worse than any torture or burning imaginable. It is the total lack of love or hope. The Catholic Church has never taught the existence of limbo, though some Catholics do believe in such a place. Following is what the Catholic Church teaches regarding infants who die before they are baptized: As regards children who have died without Baptism, the Church can only entrust them to the mercy of God, as she does in her funeral rites for them. Indeed, the great mercy of God who desires that all men should be saved, and Jesus' tenderness toward children which caused him to say: "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them," allow us to hope that there is a way of salvation for children who have died without Baptism. All the more urgent is the Church's call not to prevent little children coming to Christ through the gift of holy Baptism.
