I retired 46 years ago after being there in WWII, Korea and Vietnam and, if God could give me the young body, I'd like to do it again.

I feel that America should organize a Seniors Brigade so that those of us who are in our sixties to eighties can do our thing again. Hell, I can still pull a trigger and still aim a gun, what else do I need to do ( so long as I don't have to climb a hill or run ).

If there is a draft, count me in.

Thomas Jefferson once stated, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed by the blood of patriots and tyrants." Whether or not you or any US citizen agrees with the war in Iraq, the bottom line is that we, the US, invaded. The president with the approval of congress, and the approval of the american people, AT THE TIME IT STARTED, set and commited to this action. It is a war between radically different cultures and mind sets. The tyrants ie: insurgents, terrorists, Saddam loyalists, radical islamic militants, the list goes on and on. We being the patriots trying to preserve a belief that places value on human life, instead of value on death, as the tyrants believe.

I myself already served. However if this nation decided that the situation was so dire that the reinstitution of a draft was necessary. I would reenlist voluntarily. I would also highly recommend that anyone who got drafted serve there nation as a patriot. War sucks, and we as a nation despise war, however that does not mean that we are not very very very good at it.

Just keep in mind that it would take a supremely dire situation to convince all in congress that reinstitution of the draft was necessary. I would hate to think how bad that would have to be.

I am in the Coast Guard now. For all of you people who say we are not the military, we are. We have been in every war since we were formed in 1790. We are in Iraq right now. I would have to say though, that I would proudly serve in any of the five branches of the service. They are all unique in their own way. The biggest difference between the Coast Guard and the other four branches is that the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force are combat oriented. The Coast Guard is Law Enforcement and Search and Rescue oriented. When a pilot goes down in the ocean, we are the first ones there searching, when someone is lost, we come to the rescue. When people smuggle drugs or illegal aliens, we will get you.

Let me first say that I don't believe in the draft. If we are fighting a war of like WWII, maybe the draft was needed. But, Viet Nam proved drafting, without high standards, is very detrimental to the services. Now with the Hi-Tech equipment we have, we need intelligent and capable people.

But, if I was drafted, I would accept. I believe in supporting my country. I also believe in obeying the laws of the land.

I only wish I was young enough to go, but I would do the honorable thing and join before there was a draft. I don't think there wil be a draft however. The democrats wouldn't allow it.

Nick, you are right that there is democrats that want to reinstate a draft, but the two I know of is Rangel (N.Y.), and Conyers (Mich.), however this is if things don't improve with Iran and Korea. Thanks for saying you would enlist.

One would simply report for duty. The alternative is to leave the country (no Peace Corp option right now).

Don't worry, the only one that wants a draft is a Democrat. The military doesn't want a draft ever again.

So long as people like my daughter volunteer, your little butt is safe... you can sit there and b*tch about the war all you want.

Well seeing as it is the law, I'd go. I'd also write letters to all politicians telling them to stop running the war and let the military do their job, so the war ends. Diplomacy time is over. Lets fight this war to win.

I would absolutely love to go back. I knew what was expected of me, I knew what I was doing, and I had friends I could count on. Since I retired... Well, let's just say I'm kind of lost. The war? Been there, done that. Kind of miss it really. Don't ask, I doubt I could ever explain to a degree that you might actually understand. I miss the old me and my life.

I would suck it up and get over the annoying sh*t in boot camp. I want to, but I haven't spent more than four months together with my husband in our 2 year relationship. I don't want to miss another second without him (any POSSIBLE second). Maybe if I was tired of him (lol) I would go anyway, but that's not happening.

It would depend on the war. If I got drafted today I would probably leave the country. I would gladly defend my country, but I would not participate in a pointless invasion of a country that was no threat. It would be awful to go there, dangerous and I don't believe in the cause. I have known vets of the iraq war, mostly through the democratic party (did you know that many soldiers and marines are democrats?). And I respect them and their service. But I don't support the war and I am not prepared to die for this cause. I'm sure many people think that we shouldn't be able to pick and choose when we die for our country, but I think that in a free country we must be able to refuse to fight.

In fact, I think I would rather spend years in prison as a conscientious objector than fight in this war. Again, believe me, I respect people who choose to serve, but personally could not. In world war II I would have volunteered to defend the country, I am not a pacifist. But I won't have any part of this war.
