It would depend on which state you are in, what charge the prosecutor wants to go for, and what kind of deal the defendant signs for (if he pleas out).

In my state, if the prosecutor goes for aggravated assualt with a deadly weapon, then he could spend up to ten years in prison. If the charge is not aggravated, he could be sentenced up to 10 years, but more than likely only serve about 3-5 of the sentence before getting paroled out.

However, if the prosecutor can get away with charging the person with intent to commit murder, then the person could face up to 99 years in jail.

Of course a lot of people plea out for a smaller charge, and sometimes will sign a deal with the courts so that they don't have to take it to jury trial, which usually ends up with the person getting a substantially smaller amount of jail time.

Stabbing somebody five times tends to go beyond Assault with a Deadly Weapon. It sounds like this could be an attempted murder case, and the guy COULD do life. Then again, he could get a good lawyer, make up some story and walk. You never know.

Ummmm, your friend is a VICTIM, not a suspect or a criminal. Victims don't spend time in prison.

The suspect however, "could" serve as much as 10 years if the case occurred in Florida.

Punctuating his liver, huh? Last time I checked that wasn't a crime (terrible misuse of words, but not criminal). Why would he spend any time in prison for GETTING stabbed?

Ohhhhh. I see. Okay. 5-10 for attempted murder, time off for good grammar.

Depends on what State your in! Probably depends on the assailants criminal record and how strong the evidence is against the perpetrater. With a plea deal 10yrs Probation or if they refuse to drop the aggrevated, 5yrs. Prison, do 2 jump out on parole.

Well it's attempted murder. Or if he dies then just plain murder. If he has a rap sheet already then he will leave prison in a pine box. Unless he was stabbed because he tried to rob someone then he got what he deserved.

Usually they send the person that done the stabbing to prison, not the victim.
