Ha ha yes sometimes, since i'm an airline employee sometime i get to sit in first class and its kind of funny to analyze the coach passengers faces. I notice some people even go as far as to hold their head down to avoid eye contact with the first class passengers almost as if some of them are ashamed to be flying in coach. Hey as long as i get there it doesnt matter to me.

I agree with airbud, I worked for an airline, and flew alot on First Class. Dont let it bother you, a seat is a seat. Either someone paid for that seat or earned it by flying their life away or for working for that airline. Some people are rude and make snide comments, but they are the ones that dont want to pay for a better seat and then complain that their $100 round trip ticket should come with a meal. There are aircrafts, like a 757 and a 767-400 where you enter the aircraft at the second door, so you dont even have to walk through First Class, which to me is better for the people sitting in that cabin. They may enjoy priority boarding, but with only one forward door and 200 people passing by you, it can be a pain the butt, especially if someone has a shoulder bag, baby or are careless with their roll-aboard bags.
Only thing that I feel now when I fly, is missing my flight benefits. If I flew on buddy passes, I couldnt sit in First since my daugther is an infant. But, I do buy First Class from time to time and I dont care if I have my baby with me or not, I bought the seat...so deal with it.
Everyone should at some point in their life pay a little more and fly First Class...its truely the only way to fly.

No, I don't feel awkward. I am surprised at some of the sour grape comments here. I have flown both First and Coach, of course at times sitting in the middle seat. But I am the same person. That's not true of everyone, though. There are some people who change when they get upgraded to First. Suddenly they must have champagne? Why? They've never had it before? So maybe it's those kind of people in First that are making you uncomfortable.

What don't you understand about the interior design of modern aircraft? You have exit row and bulkhead and business class and first class, so those ARE your choices. Now, airlines are going to charge you extra $$$ to request more legroom....get an aisle seat and get of and move around or fly on a BIGGER plane.

Nope, never. Most of those people fly for most of their lives...they work around the world and are the top tier fliers for various airlines. Who wants to spend all that time in aircraft?
source: worked for an airline for 31 years.

If you truly feel awkward about it (which I don't since usually the person sitting in 1st class is going to be the most annoying, hard to please passenger on the flight...) then flying JetBlue is always an option; no first class on their flights.

I feel a bit jealous maybe. But I wouldn't pay the price of first class.

If it does, just swing your bag wildly and take a few of them out.
Why feel awkward? They are willing to pay egregiously high prices for a free beer.

Not awkward, but a mixture of jealousy (they have bigger seats) and superiority (they paid a few thousand dollars more for five more inches of legroom).
