I just bought a pair of leather skecher sandals, but my dad isn't the biggest fan of them because he says that they aren't water sandals or something. Can I wear leather sandals in water or to the beach?

Here's a pic of my sandals: http://www.famousfootwear.com/product.asp?product_id=1008337&variant_id=10709

Going barefoot isn't going to kill you. Why do people feel the need to wear shoes on the beach? Are you afraid of the sand?

These should not be allowed to get wet. The leather will eventually get very hard and cracked if you wear them in water. For extra protection, invest in waterproofing spray, which is available at Wal-Mart in either the sporting goods departmente or shoe department. I use this on my good leather purses and shoes to protect them from rain. Works quite well. Nice sandals!

Those should work fine for the beach, but they look too expensive to go in water. Plastic sandals or flip-flops tend to hold up much better if taken into the water; they can't be ruined by the water, and they dry out much more quickly.

You can, but you have to be aware that leather contracts and expants when in contact with water. It will contract when wet, but as it drys it expands that why it is seasoned for several weeks before being made into a product. It might be better to go buy some cheap rock shoes for water wear.

You can wear any shoe you want in water... But leather stretches out when it gets wet and your shoes won't fit well anymore... So instead of Skechers you will have Stretchers... lol...
Seriously, they will stretch out of shape and be ruined. They can also shrink if wet and left in the sun... leather is unpredictable at times.. I wouldn't take the chance cause Skechers are expensive.. :)

I had some really pretty leather sandals last summer and I broght them to the beach and they got wet. The next day, after they dried out, my feet couldn't fit in them anymore because they shrunk. If I were you I wouldn't let them get wet if you decide to keep them.

Water ruins leather. You should listen to your dad more often and stop being so rebellious. He's had a lot more experiences than you and just wants the best for you!
