I homeschool my 2nd and 4th grader and would like them to continue the AR reading program that they were in at school, is there anyone out there who knows of a web site where they can take the AR quiz on the books they have read? or is that even possiable. I just started homeschooling them after christmas vacation and they are returning to school next year so i would like to keep them in the basic routine of things that they are already used to doing. and also if there is any websites that you could tell me about that would help with worksheets and material please include them. all help will be greatly accepted , and THANK YOU, in advance for all your help.

You have to PAY for this copyrighted material. I hope you're teaching better than you write...

If they like quizzes, you can make your own. Read the book, ask 5 questions as you read, and write down the answers on a seperate sheet.
If they are creative, have them see the book, only the pictures, hear the title, and they can come up with 5 questions before they actually read the story...this way they will pay attention!

For example, the book may have images of a knight in armor in front of a castle, they may ask themselves, who is this person? Is he looking for someone? Dos he live in the castle? Is there a princess in the castle?

It could be a book in the human body, and some images from afar without reading the book may elicit other questions: what is the long pink thing called? Why is blood red and noty white? Does everyone have the same "insides"?

You may need to help them along the path, say that is a good question, do you know the answer? If yes, make them search for a new question that the book may answer. The questions can even be super silly!

ABC: Ask them to write down a word besides each of the letter of the alphabet that they heard during the story...or, you choose the words in advance (not all letters will be there) then, that is the spelling list, and the memory list. Later on, ask them about the M-word from the story...maybe it was maiden from the castle, or it was moustache from the bodies book...

There is no "perfect" quizz, I have never heard of AR quizzes, the best quizzes are those that are not like the school kind, rote, true/false, or fill in the blanks... the best ones are those where kids eyes and excitment burst out. When they love to solve the puzzle, when you all remember the story with great delight! (not another chore...)

There should be no site with the quizzes available online because they are all copyrighted.

They'll be fine if they aren't participating in AR until next school year. There's no huge adjustment or anything. If anything, if they were allowed to pick their own books for reading time and just enjoy reading, instead of having to be tested and thinking about points and all that, they'd probably read better.

Ignore the ignorant fools who can do nothing better than insult parents who are trying to get the best for their kids.

As for the quizzes, I am not too familiar with your specific site but I do have a fun site that lets kids build up points to later spend on prizes. Better yet, this site is free! It is filled with quizzes on books at multiple levels, checking for details read.

Explore this free site and see if your kids like it.
