A cop was killed in Baltimore earlier this month by a guy who had been arrested 17 times, mostly for violent offenses. But very often, these offenses are against their girlfriends, or whatever, and they refuse to press charges or to come to court to testify, so there isn't much that can be done towards locking them up. Once these guys do get convicted, though, they need to be locked up for longer periods. I think the jury should be allowed to hear about prior bad acts. And I think the stupid people who refuse to press charges should face penalties also, for wasting the police's time. I also don't think our sex offender laws have caught up with our sex offenders. Kidnapping, for instance, should carry a life sentence, but it almost always used to be done by the noncustodial parent, so the penalties are very light. That's why people like Mr Devlin get back out in a few years.

You are right. We are being too nice to people that commit crimes these days. Especially the violent ones.
First thing we are doing wrong is allowing the people to cut deals so that cases arent heard in court. Yea, it saves the court some time and money, but in the long run, all it does is get the person back out on the street quicker just to commit the same crime again. We need to stop with making plea deals with such "slaps on the wrist", and start throwing some real time at these people.
Another thing that we need to do is check out how the "correctional system" is trying to correct the behavior of the people that break the law. As it stands, inmates in the prisons have too many rights. There is no punishment going on. They really do not have to work or have responsibilities at all. They get fed, a roof over thier head, cable tv, and is some prisons, all the kinds of media (nudey magazines) given to them. Who is footing the bill for all this? We are.
If we would make it like the old days where it didn't matter who you are in the prison system, you got up and went to work in the sun all day. We need to stop making it like a Hilton for these inmates. It is so much easier or these people on the inside of those walls, that they don't really care to do better on the outside because on the outside they actually have to have responsibility for thier actions and work for things. Inside they don't.
What we need to do is start focusing on spending the tax dollars on ways to actually rehabilitate the people that will be getting out one day. That is try to find out why these people are like this with no regard for the law or other people, and try to change that or show them a better way. That is why the prison systems usually fall under the name "correctional facility". But what are we doing to correct thier behavior?

Well, I agree with you.
However, our legal system is set up so that innocent people aren't put in jail. To do that, we have to let a few criminals slip through the fingers of the law.
I agree with the death penalty. There are so many people who are proud of their crime - let's see if they will be proud enough to die for them. I'll bet there are enough to make it worthwhile.
A criminal in my house isn't going to get away with much. If he so much as touches a member of my family, or my wife, they won't make it outside, much less to court, with their head intact.
This is a perfect reason to enforce the 2nd Ammendment wherever you live. Some people don't have the heart to pull a trigger. I don't have the heart to deal with my family being murdered or raped, and I don't believe a criminal who says "Do what I say and no-one gets hurt".
Even the dumb criminals don't leave eyewitnesses.

honesty has no place here...only personal views of the leiniency of the law. i served a full 5 year sentence for a stolen car when i was 17-22. is that a smack on the wrist? i didnt even steal the freaken car . i was not a snitch was my crime.
those years of my life were stolen from me! so i feel any crime i choose to do from here on out is a freebee.
yet i only smoke weed. i dont even drink. i bet you or most of the people you know do.drinking should be illegal as well. more deaths result from drinking than smoking weed...look it up!
i dont do anything but mind my own business and not the legalities of others. id suggest you do the same and quit whining unless you are out there combating crime yourself.
i do. i ve stopped many crimes in my neighborhood here in st louis, and i dont call the police. what have you done? so shush

Laws now are giving criminals more rights than their victims. For example, if a woman reports that she was raped, she then is raked over the coals by law enforcement, like she caused the criminal to commit the rape.

Seriously i have thought of putting the death penalty on these criminals. Jail is not really a punishment anymore.

The only way to insure that any molester will not do it again is death. Whether legally by the courts or justifiably. Interpret that however you want. Public hanging or lynching is how they were handled.
