There are endless possibilities in archery but that too depends on how good you are.

Most big Game animals have been hunted successfully with Bow and Arrow.
There are archery competition at all levels.
Research the net and endless list of ideas.

You can hunt many animals with a bow and usually you have a longer, separate season. Check with your states DNR (Department of Natural Resources - or Conservation Department), for seasons rules, and ages.

Depending on your state, you could start as young as 6 or so (accompanied by an adult and probably after a mandatory safety course (at least for firearms)).

Go to a sporting goods store and shop for a used bow. Don't buy one with to much pull and figure on growing into it. Shot placement is everything and you won't get that with an uncomfortable bow.
Now's a very good time of year to do it!
Towards fall when hunting seasons begin, prices will be way up and deals scarce.
There's always someone trading up... You can get targets for your backyard (if you have room), or you can rent range time (depends on where, but I've seen it as cheap as $5 for 1/2 day). Some public schools and/or parks departments offer it too.

You just need some (basically blunt) target arrows to start.
You can practice stalking and observing even if you are not ready to hunt.

Good hunting and have fun!

Startup a archery shop and teach archy classes to kids and adults...sponser a few cometions. Or become a hunting guide, they make enough money to survive throu out the year, and along with the guide do your own hunting videos too...those are always popular and those guys get money coming in from the royalties.

A traveling renisannces fair would be good, also in certain states during a small portion of hunting seasons its illegal to hunt with anything other than bows (~2 wks) .
