I am going through the same thing. (I have a boy who is 3 and a girl who is 1 1/2) I am making the move gradually. I think the hardest part for him is not being able to have the cup with him(Because he or his sister spill it he can't carry it with him). That was the biggest transition for him. We started putting chocolate milk in the "big boy cup"- so if you find something that he really likes and put it in the lidless cup he might like that. Mostly my son is afraid he is going to spill it, or that he can't drink it as fast as he wants, so i think he will catch on.

My 3 and 4 y/o boys love the cups with the straws attached to them. Sometimes you can find the ones with lids too. I know that my 3 y/o still needs to have something with a lid for the most part. He can drink from a regular cup but has a tendancy to spill. You could take him to the store and let him pick his own cup out. Tell him that it's just for him and noone else will be allowed to drink from it. He might like the idea that it's only his. Good luck!!

I am already training my 8 month old, who does not use bottles anymore and uses only sippies now, to drink from the cup "big boy style". When his milk is almost gone from the sippy, I take the lid off and have him drink the remaining few teaspoons the regular way. YOu need to just stop giving them to him. Period. If you don't want to throw them away, put them in a high cupboard, don't give them to him, and he will come around in a couple of days. It's just a matter of control, not inability to do it.

I dont really think there is anything wrong with it but try letting him pick out his own "big boy" cup...that should work. Also, try one with a straw first to break him in a little. I have a 1 and 2 year old and they always both want a regular cup but they dump it on the floor so they get the sippy cups! :-) Good Luck!

Both of my kid are under 3 and they no longer use a sippy cup. I first started them out with a cup and a straw the really liked it. It can be a little messy at first but, they get the hang of it, and be for you know it they take the straw out and learn how to use a cup.

I like the cups with lids on them...kids are sooo messy!! Try to find the cups with lids on them that have his favorite hero on them like Spiderman and Diego! This cups are taller and have the lid and straw connected...you can find them at Walmart,Target....good luck!!! These cups look a little grown up compared to the sippy cup!!

at 3 years old they should drink out of a big boy cup. he should first use a big boy cup with a straw so he gets use to having that cup then in about a month. he should take the staw out and drink reguraly. when he first drinks you should help him hold the cup. as soon as you know it. he will not need those baby cups anymore and will be all grown up! lol

My son who is 2 drinks from both depending on where we are. Maybe take him to the store and tell him to pick a sippy cup for his sissy and pick a big boy cup for himself! Tell him he is a big boy now and needs to drink from a big boy cup not a baby cup!
