their brains are not fully connected (frontal lobes to other parts) until about 23. until then they act like psychotic adults. that's normal. so did we. they have no experience, judgment etc.
it's your job to protect them in the meantime even if they hate you. they luckily are not capable yet of beingindependent and are normally financially dependent on you.

The first poster is right on target. Researchers have done a lot of studying about brain function and have found that the adult brain is not fully developed until age 22-23. Time magazine did a very interesting article on this called "What makes teens tick?" in the May 10, 2004 issue. See http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,994126,00.html
The good news is that we don't have to wait that long for them to start acting a little bit nicer. Around the time kids graduate from high school they start to become more reasonable. It's like they realize that there is a real world out there and they are going to have to live in it. Of course, just when they get to be decent human beings again they move out...but hey, at least your house is quiet!
Kids - don't get offended. I know most of this stuff because I was a teenager once and my parents were just as stupid as yours. :)

Most teens think they're invincible, they can accomplish anything, nothing stands in their way, they know all the right answers, parents just don't get it...blah, blah.... I know I did as a teen. I still have an audio diary between ages 17-19...when I listen to it now, I sound like such a clueless ****** idiot.
As you get older, you realize that you're not and you make smarter decisions.
But there are some teens out there that are very mature, intelligent, and have a lot of common sense.
I don't have kids yet, but when I do...I hope I end up with teens that are a bit more open-minded.

how about some specifics??
it's is common knowledge that hormones have the best of them while they are teens. You do not matter right now, so get over it and realize that eventually you will have your teen back (or so I have heard)
I went from being able to spend time with my child and enjoying her company to being completely ignored and treated as if I was the scum of the earth. (have also been told how boring and uncool I am)
unless your teen is using drugs, acting extremely violent and causing himself or others harm, then you will just have to deal with it. Try to develop as much patience as you possibly can. give him/her space and freedom without being lax.
good luck!

we arent crazy we just want to have a good time and we have SO much going on in our lives like adults CONSTANTLY yelling at us for stuff we DO NOT do that for some reason they think we did and we have body changes going on that make us tempermental (if yr a female) but even if yr a male you still go through puberty! so listen to you teenager and maybe he/she will lighten up or just leave them alone and let them do what they want to do. i mean would it really hurt to let them do something sometime!?(please dont take any of this personal)
