Because they do not know the meaning of "being a lady".
The "Lady" is a figure in our society that is fading fast! I'm not saying that it is ok for a man to be nasty, because a real Man carries himself with pride and dignity. Just as a real Lady should do also. And I am not saying that it is just horrible to occassionaly burp or curse, we are human. Can't be "perfect" all the time.

I have noticed that in the last few years the general public has poor manners. Anyone with bad manners will have difficulties getting jobs important jobs with top companies and gaining respect from others. I do not think its everyone but poor manners are on the rise.

I think it's both girls and boys....Manners usually start at home...Years ago most mothers stayed at home to raise their kids themselves so teaching good manners was always a priority...Now many mothers work just as much as the fathers and no one is really there to teach or set an example of what having good manners is.

I agree with Urydice. Home training is most assuredly the issue. Your manners are influenced by how you're raised, and few people were (and are) raised with truly good manners. In fact, it used to be that you could tell what someone's social standing was by the type of manners they had.

And for those of you blaming equality and womens' liberation, I suggest you pay a visit to our house. Success and manners go together VERY well for the women in my family, including myself.

wow, I have noticed this too. My daughter had a friend over the other day that burped super loud in front of everyone. And a girl at the office did that last week too. Maybe times have changed and this is now acceptable? Either they have bad manners or I am old fashioned. I find it unappealing. Unfeminine.

You can thank society for that. It seems like we are the place were we are free to do-what-we-feel. You can also see it on TV programs. As you have stated guys do it also. I remember going to an eatry and hearing cuss words a mile a minute. I am 25 and my mom would belt in public for doing that.

Again the world is going to ___.

Manners are just society's way of telling what is the right and wrong way to act. People care to much

Did you know in some countries it was considered a compliment to pass gas or burp after a meal?

I'm sure some of it comes from some of their home training but a lot of it probably is trying to merely get attention even though it's a rude way of doing so but may be that's the only way they figure that they can get it.
