ok so, i just got my braces off about 2 weeks ago, my ortho told me to wear my retainer 24-7 for those 2 weeks then just at night after BUT last night i lost them..in the snow..and now im freaking out because i can't see him and get a replacement until monday which is 2 days from now, is there any chance that my teeth will shift alot to the point that there will be a big problem or will my original mold for my retainer still fit only it'll be alittle bit tight?

You'll be fine without it for this length of time. Just call them early Monday morning so they can have another made for you by that afternoon. It happens all the time!

Two days should be fine. Yes, your retainer may be rather tight at first, but after a day it should feel OK again.

It's great that your orthodontist can get another one made for you so quickly. The first months after your braces come off are really vital. If you don't wear your retainer as instructed, your teeth could shift. It takes around 6 to 9 months for the periodontal ligament to "remember" the new positions of the teeth. So please be careful and wear your retainer daily for the first year as instructed. After that, you can wear it at night. Then after a while, only a few nights per week. Your orthodontist is the best judge of how many hours you need to wear it to maintain your smile.

If you stop wearing your retainer altogether, then your teeth will slowly begin to shift. So unless you want crooked teeth (or braces again) when you are older, take good care of your retainer!

No it will be fine but your mother wont be too happy having to pay to replace it. I threw mine out with my lunch a couple of times and I got in big trouble. By the way make sure that you do wear it, your teeth will shift. My friend ended up having braces twice because of this.

KAYTEE,
IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME W/O A RETAINER NOT MUCH WILL HAPPENTO YOUR TEETH. IF YOU GO W/O A RETAINER FOR SEVERAL MONTS, THEN THERE IS A VERY GOOD POSSIBILITY THAT THERE WILL BE A SMALL DEGREE OF MISALIGNMENT. THIS WILL NOT BE TRAGIC.
JUST GET A NEW RETAINER MADE FROM THE OLD MOULD A.S.A.P.
THE NEW RETAINER MAY FIR A BIT TIGHT BUT IT WN'T BE BAD.

Kaytee....don't worry about it at all.

I had braces for 2 years and NEVER wore my retainer. My teeth are still very straight (15 yrs later).

So, just relax and get a new retainer when you get the chance.

Good Luck!
