I've wondered for awhile why all the major religions are male-centric, with a male heirarchy and females relegated to a secondary role. (if that) Of course, if guys run the thing *of course* they're going to put themselves at the top of the totem pole. ('Honey, it's not ME, it's God that thinks I'm superior') The response every time someone thinks they see the Virgin Mary in a stain on the sidewalk or a knothole in a tree suggests there is a strong, though sublimated desire for a spirituality that honors the female principle as well. Look at all the suffering and bloodshed religions have wrought over the millenia. I think we ought to give the femmes a shot and I wouldn't be surprised if something emerged in the coming decade or so. Whaddaya think?

As far as Judaism, I suggest you consult the Talmud to gauge the status of women in that religion...

Congratulations. You've just found Dianic Wicca.

In reality, any religion centered on a male or female deity will fail. It means one gender is better than the other. In many other forms of Wicca, the female is regarded as having most of the power. That power, though, is given to her by the male. They must both be in harmony for their power to be revealed.

Actually, in some pagan religions, a god AND a goddess are worshiped, and often the goddess is the main god. I do agree though, it seems almost more than a coincidence that so many religions are built around the male figure, especially since there was so much more prejudice against women then.

Already been tried.
Check back to the mother worship created by Nimrod of Babylon.
Keep going to the religions of the Persians, Greeks and Romans.
They all had female gods.

This is not true of all major religions. For Judaism, look up the word Biral (Sophia in the Greek). For Hinduism, look up the words Devi, Durga, Parvati, Lakshmi, Shakti, etc.
