Todays's toll was the third-highest of any single day since the war began in March 2003, eclipsed only by 37 U.S. deaths on Jan. 26, 2005, and 28 on the third day of the U.S. invasion. U.S. authorities also announced two additional American combat deaths from Friday.

gingerjmk... - You are very right about that. It is a matter of honor at this point to oppose Bush because he is clueless #1 and he is acting as an enemy of our military!

Asshat McPoop - fitting screen name. Your analogy is not even laughable. WWII dummy read some history. This is an insurgent war, try measuring numbers to Algeria and see where this war is headed.

Hagar - the killing will decrease because the occupation will be over. Look no further than Vietnam to see the evidence of this.

Coming from a former soldier and a spouse of a soldier. Many of these soldiers out there want all of this BS that Bush has pushed on us to end. My husband has been deployed 4 times.... hes on his 5th year long rotation! hes only 24! Why is it that Bush doesnt see anything wrong with this. Young men and women get deployed every single day to this country where 75% of their people really dont want us there, nor do they care about stabilizing their country. Bush needs to get out of power and we need to find someone who can read and write and do their arithmetic and hey maybe even know how to be a president since Bush dont seem to know wtf he is doing. The man talks like a 2 year old with a speech impediment. This is a man we are supposed to think of on such a high level. Honestly, I cant wait for the next elections. I hope someone gets into office and is on the U.S's side not someone who is looking for oil, and looking to take out some sort of revenge on some taliban that did his daddy wrong. this was not about 911 it was just another excuse for bush to get what he wanted. we should be concentrating on how to better protect our country and a better way to get our people off the streets and control our borders instead of pumping millions of dollars into a country who doesnt even want to help themselves!!!! that is all i have to say about that...... sorry i had an itch in me and had to let it out!
ok so im adding more to this. excuse me. but honestly this war was alot different than ww2. in ww2 your enemies wore uniforms and carried weapons and shot at you and you knew it was coming. in iraq, you got men all dressed differently just normal casual wear for them (ya know, towels on their heads and raggaty clothes) and nothing sets them apart from the everyday happy go lucky civillians over there. they send their children out with bombs to give to soldiers and stuff liek that! who would do that! this is something that i think we need to pull out on. let them destroy themselves. im sorry for sayin that. but how can you help someone who doesnt want to help themselves? you cant! they have to want the help. and guess what they really dont want us there. our people get killed every single day and i have seen it over and over and over again while there and i have seen wives have to bury their husbands who have babies and most of them arent even 25 yet! its enough and we need to take care of #1 before anything else. bulk up our securities. close off our airspace to us travel only and bomb them! honestly! it will get rid of the entire problem. maybe im lookin at this from a totally different prospective than some other people here.... wait i am, i was there, i did it and i made it home safely. i was not even 19 yet when i deployed! then i deployed again when i was 20 for a year! im so friggin happy i made it back alive and am kissing the ground i walk on. think about that for 5 minutes before you shove that ww2 bs back on this dang site! boo friggin hoo about ww2. its done and over with. but we are still fighting this never ending battle right now.
MERDEDESML: Yes the soldiers believe they are fighting legitimate evil but I can give you nearly an entire base right now of people that want to come home and believe the same exact thing I just said. Like I said, Load up on security. Simple as that. We need to start looking at how much money we are throwing away over there when we have homeless shelters full of people everyday, we have people on the streets. People at home sick who cant afford medical treatment. We have people who have a home but still cant afford to take care of themselves. We have lack of jobs here and we have lack of money for our own people. So before you speak like you know something, this SOLDIER is tellin you what us SOLDIERS are really thinking. We want our fellow military members home. We do not want to be going through all of this anymore. WE dont want to be living in the sand, wondering if this trip outside that gate will be our last and if we wont be coming home at the end of our tour. Think about us soldiers for 5 minutes and tell me what YOU come up with. Cuz Im telling you, YOU HAVE NO IDEA!
To Our wonderful host of this discussion, I apologize if Im getting out of hand here but I find it entertaining that people who arent in the military know what us "soldiers" are thinking and feeling.... aww they support the troops but do they support us enough to want us home.... you know what im sayin. Thanks for lettin me vent. lol close this thing before it gets out of hand!

It's too bad that Bush hadn't learned the lessons of history. What he is leading us into is the same mistake as the Vietnam War, a war without end, a war whose end is only in sight after the last American soldier pulled out. The sectarian conflict and civil war is a hopeless case. There's nothing the U.S. can do about it. We invaded Iraq and we cannot expect the Iraqis to feel grateful to the invaders. Had the U.S. not invaded, there would not be any sectarian conflict.
Bush went to war in Iraq supposedly to make it a good example of what a democratic nation should be, a nation with freedom and democracy the rest of the Middle-East can emulate. Will the rest of the theocratic nations in the Middle-East support the kind of freedom and democracy Iraq is in now?. I'm sure that with the events they're witnessing now, they'd rather remain theocratic than be democratic. In this goal, Bush had miserably failed.

I am wondering what experience you have with the military. Are you part of the military? Have you had any experience with the military? What do you *do?*
I'm just curious. Usually the people saying things like this are either a.) liberals with no experience with the military or and are clueless, or b.) clueless college students with no real world experience.
War is sad. Death is sad. The American troops, however, believe that they are fighting a legitimate evil and believe what they are fighting against is worth the sacrifice.

When we win! If your a democrat that means the Iraqi Military and Police can protect the country. If we dont finish the job ethen you can see alot more dead people and we will have to go back and finish. We could have started this when Binladden declared war in 96 but we wanted to wait thats why 911 woke us up

So our death toll is up past 3000 in a war where we are being shot at daily.
That's a mere 1% of what we lost in WW2.
Thank goodness we learned to fight smarter and not have so many casualties while simultaneously kicking the crap out of the enemy.
Rock on, America.
Yellow goes in front, hippie. Brown goes in back.
Ginger: You can thank Clinton for downsizing the military for 8 years. Tho, I wish the best for you and I hope he gets to come home soon.

No. Pro-life is an accurate term. Pro-choice sounds better than pro-abortion b/c when that choice is made a person dies. You want choice? IUDs, diaphragms, condoms, vasectomy, tubal ligation, hormone patches, etc. All those are choices. When people choose NOT to utilize them, then they're choosing to possibly create a baby. The baby shouldn't have to pay for their stupidity with its life. Go ahead w/ the thumbs down. IDGAF

If the Americans pulled out now, what do you think will happen? You can't tell me that all killings will stop, birds will start to chirp and everybody will dance in the parks and they will be in perfect harmony, HELL NO!!! The killings will increase, and things will be worse off than before.
I wish I could agree with you on the Vietnam issue, but I can't. The Iraqi government is still to unstable and incompetent to run their own country.
