it could be your pillow... i get a sore neck from my pillow all the time, so i went and bought new ones, and yeah that seems to have solved the problem.

It sounds like you need to get a new pillow and possibly see a doctor or chiropractor. Call the doctor, especially if the pain continues or you have numbness, tingling, or weakness in your arm or hand.

I used to get horrible neck aches.... but when I bought a feather pillow that "fits" the curve of my head and neck, the aches went away.
I think you can get pillows with a "roll" that supports your neck and head as well.

For the pain, you can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
Apply heat or ice to the sore area. Or you can use ice for the first 48 - 72 hours, then use heat after that. Heat can be from a hot shower, a hot compress - just use a hot wet (wrung out) face cloth or hand towel, or you could try using a heating pad.
Perform some gentle " range-of-motion " exercises -- up-and-down, side-to-side, and from ear-to-ear -- to gently stretch the neck muscles.
Buy a hand held massager, or have someone gently massage the painful area for you.
Sleep on a firm mattress - either without a pillow or with a pillow that "shapes" itself to your head, or a special neck pillow.

I hope this helps..... But if it doesn't....... see a chiropractor, because you may need an adjustment to your spine or neck

A couple of suggestions:

*go to a chiropractor and get some information and an adjustment to your spine

*sleep on a good mattress (or on the floor on a mat)

*use pure unadulterated peppermint essential oil for the kinky feeling in your neck. Just massage a couple of drops into the area that aches.

*freeze water in a styrofoam cup and then peel the styrofoam back and rub the affected area with the ice in continuous small circles for 7 minutes. Warm with gentle massage and with a warm washcloth. If there is still pain and stiffness, repeat with the ice for another 7 minutes. Red skin=circulation+healing This is a form of "hydrotherapy"

All the best!

You can try sleeping in a soft collar, the type people use when they have whiplash, it will help keep your neck straight while sleeping. Also, you might want to see a neurologist who can help determine if it's just a muscle spasm from sleeping with your head in a bad position or something else.

It maybe that you are very stressed at the moment which does cause neck pain. If it is stress and you get over it you will feel a great weight lifted off your shoulders like the old "saying" goes. In the meantime you could try taking anti inflamitary tablets from your pharmacy.

You may just be sleeping too long with your neck in one position resulting in a stiff neck from this or something could be out of place in which case a chiropractor will help.

Those are called cricks, I have a crick in my neck, it is caused from sleeping in a odd posistion, being stressed during a REM sleep time, being cold, or jerking it hard during a bad dream. My advice is to breathe deeply three or four times, deep relaxing breaths before going to sleep, get one good pillow, write down anything that you need to do, and say out loud, I am going to have a restful, relaxing sleep a few times. dont sleep in too cold of a room and do not eat anything three hours before it is time for sleep.

try sleeping with a towel roll under your neck. make sure to rubber band the ends so it doesn't come undone. you can play around with the size of the roll and it won't cost you a thing. go to a physical therapist if that doesn't help, not a chiropractor-they're quacks.

I had the same problem regularly. I bought a second pillow and now use two. It hasn't happened again.
