Why is it as a muslim american I am bombarded with people speaking about my religion as if they know. I live in Chicago with one of the largest muslim populations in the US. I wear hijab and you would not believe how many nonmuslims come up to me an talk about islam like there some kind of expert just because theyve watched a 5min soundbit on the news.
I thought that this country was for freedom of expression? If thats true then why are they so agianst me following my faith? My friends tell me that its because they have never had someone come up to them and tell them they suddenty couldnt be christian or whatever faith they are? To me it just seem so hipocritcal!!!
BY THE WAY IF YOUR GOING TO MAKE SOME IGNORANT REMARK! DONT BOTHER YOULL JUST BE PROVING MY POINT!!!!!!!!!!!

People must respect others' religious beliefs, but it sounds like many people don't respect yours. You see, what's happened in America is that because of the terrorist attacks a few years ago, many Americans assume that all Muslims are either terrorists or sympathetic to terrorist causes. Yes, that's foolish, and they should be ashamed of thinking like that, I know, but they really do think that way.
I think all you can do is lead a respectful life, and show by example that you and other Muslims are good people. That's the best anyone can do.

I'm sorry about your troubles with people bothering you about being a Muslim. It's really sad that people are so mean and ignorant. I don't claim to know much about Islam, but I do know that it is unfair the way that many Muslims are being treated. And you are right, this country is about freedom of expression and religion, and you should be able to practice any religion you want in peace. I'm a Christian, and I have no problems with anybody being of a different faith. I think everyone should be treated with respect. So please know that not everyone is against Muslims. I know that a lot of people are scared because of what has been happening in the Middle East and the issues that have come from there in the last few years. Ignorant people tend to associate that with Islam, and I'm sorry for that. It's really unfair.

To be fair and give you respect, I believe you are not seeing the whole picture. First of all, Capitalism and Islam are not compatible. Yet, millions of Muslims decide to leave their countries every day to escape the poverty and lack of oportunities in their land.
A Christian or Jew would not be easily accepted in Muslim countries. I actually heard Muslim clerics say that it is OK to kill infidels. The governments in Muslim countries are never the people's choice but usually dictatorships.
Corruption and poverty in Muslim countries are rampant., despite all the incredible wealth in oil revenues. There is no major Muslim interest in developing anything that will benefit their citizens or, much less ,mankind. 85% of books published in Arab countries are about Islam, others just romances and poetry, nothing really constructive.
When we see you wearing a veil or a burka, it means that you were forced to hide yourself and that causes a negative reaction.
You can't deny that you are hiding yourself! That means shame and inferiority. We don'rt agree with that.
Women were deprived of the right to have a job or go to school in Afghanistan until recently. How can we look at this atitude with respect?
The irony is that we respect you more than Muslim men do.

Some religions proselytize and some do not. Trying to convert muslims, or pagans , or heathens, to the christian faith is part of the duty of most christian religions. They usually do not try with Jews.
Muslims are required to offer to allow christians to convert to their faith before killing them. Is this not true? SO maybe the muslim faith tries to convert others to their faith. I know they had a history of doing this by force at one time. How is that so different?
Buddhists do not spend a lot of time trying to get others to be buddhists.
Taoists could not care less.
The Amish do not seek converts.
The Mormans seek them among christians and others.
The Hindus usually do not seek to make converts.
The Jehovah's witnesses are relentless converters.
Maybe if your religion is the kind that wants others to join up, you will eventually clash with the others who want the same thing.
I am sure that christian churches in IRAN have a difficult time.
Jews seldom make efforts to convert others to their faith but some factions allow it. Muslims do not try to convert Jews to be muslims.

So maybe the christians and the muslims are destined to all die fighting each other and some other more peaceful religion will florish in their stead.
Maybe it will be the Bahia, which seems to try to honor all faiths.

But certainly Muslims have not right to complain about being discriminated against in a predominantly christian nation. It is natural and to be expected. Suck it up and deal or else convert.
That is what the jews had to do during the spanish inquisition.

Because Christians aren't strapping bombs to there belly and blowing up women and children the problem is not with all Muslims just the crazy ones the problem is you cant tell who is fanatical and who's not the religion it self pushes hate and violence so it would be safe to say from a Christian point of view all Muslims are violent im trying hard not to be rude but what other conclusion can sane people come to regarding your religion maybe if descent Muslims did more to stop the violence we would be more likely to understand and perhaps respect the Muslim religion

i'm an American Muslimah and that i understand what Ramadan, Muhurram, Eid, etc. is. It relies upon on the guy and how they were presented up. i have lived the following virtually my entire existence, yet yet I dont do sins that some human beings have dedicated. I guess you are able to pass to Pakistan, U.ok., Saudi Arabia, Africa, everywhere you pick and discover many those which aren't to any extent further that committed to Islam. i have been to different countries and allow me allow you to already know i'm more effective modest and in spite of volume i understand of my faith, i easily keep on with and practice it. I agree that they likely understand more effective than me about Islam, yet do they truly practice it?. They rejoice Eid, yet they dont quickly for the period of Ramadan. they could pray once in a lengthy time period, yet they positioned on tight clothing and positioned themselves obtainable to strangers. I have cousins that those days moved the following from Pakistan (one is 17 and the different is 22), and they are more effective modern-day than i'm. They positioned on unappropriate clothing, do issues that convey shame to their kin, etc., yet yet no individual says something to them because they lived in Pakistan and they get that qualified ITS ok tag. No, I dont positioned on a hijab, yet that doesnt mean I flirt with different men, deceive my mothers and fathers about the position i pass, and different issues that you arent think to do. yet when my cousins do it, its ok. the variety of Muslim you're relies upon on the ecosystem you stay in, the way you've been presented up, your own conception, and different elements. on the end of the day you cant basically say "individuals are the worst Muslims" thats a useless ringer for declaring "Saudi Arabia has the most perfect Muslims". in uncomplicated words Allah can come to a call that.

I doubt that only happens here and I doubt that only happens to Muslims. Please, do not act like Muslims are the only people this happens to.

Im an Atheist Satanist and people try to tell me that THEY know what I believe (I've heard the "You're just stubborn", "You're in denial", and "You really do believe in god" lines so many times i've lost count).

Hope, if theres 1 infinite/constant factor in this universe, that factor has to be human ignorance. Theres so much irony in the fact that humans are not only the most intelligent animals on earth, we're also the stupidest.

Ya i've been asked why dont i blow up buildings if im a muslim and things to that extent, Communism used to be a threat to the U.S. now its Islam. They do not understand you are right, they give a one quote theme like the "kill them where you see them" Qur'an quote that they got from someone else. Christians have an influence and come to your doorstep sometimes to ask you if you accept Jesus, i've never seen a Muslim do that. Muslims keep to themselves unless someone else bashes them and therefore have every right to defend what they believe, just like any other religion.

In America, your freedom stops when it begins to harm others, or infringe on their freedom. The classic example: having freedom of speech does not allow one to scream "FIRE!!!" in a crowded theater, and cause people to be trampled to death in the resulting stampede.

While an American has the legal right to believe what they want, no one, citizen or not, has the legal right to harm innocents because of their beliefs. And this is what a significant number of Muslims, in the U.S. and outside it, have done, because they believe the Qu'ran encourages it. Having looked into it myself, I agree with them (that the Qu'ran, and the traditions of Islam, prescribe violence - not that they should actually do it).

A lot of people are also uncomfortable with the fact that some Muslim groups are working within the political and legal system to try to make the U.S. essentially a Muslim nation, and have made a surprising amount of headway. We see this happening rapidly to some European nations and it disturbs us - most of us want to keep our American values and identity.

Bin Laden and other Muslims screwed it up for you. I am sorry that some Americans feel that way. Thats the way it is. Personally i think someone like Ibn Warraq makes a lot of excellent points in his books.

How do people feel about Americans when they say they like George Bush? is it fair to compare him to Hitler?

The average person does not understand outsiders. That goes for everyone in every country. People in Iran don't fully understand us and we don't them.

I am an Atheist which means you would get elected to public office before me. (in the USA that is)
