Go to insert>Movies and Sound>Sound from file.To keep the music playing for more than the current slide, right-click on the music icon and select Custom Animation. Then, in the Custom Animation task pane, click the drop-down arrow to the right of your sound file and choose Effect Options. In the Stop Playing section, select "After # slides" and fill in the # with the length of your slideshow. This works for 2003 version. If you have an earlier version go to Slide Show menu>Custom animation>Multimedia Settings and set After # slides.

Click on "Insert", "Movies and Sounds", "Sound from file". It should ask you if you want to plat the sound automatically, say yes. Drag the Music icon to the side so it doesn't show on the presentation.
