Happy Islam!

Cassius Clay did it, and he wasn't fired.

Asalam Alaikum
Your not the only one so no worries dear. Most of the women who revert to Islam have had to go though this at some point, weather it be at work, with family or even out shopping.

Its just something you have to do sis, there is no easy way or hard way. You just need to put the hijab on go to work and ignore any ignorant people. Remember to fear God before you fear people.

I will inshaAllah keep you in my dua.

May Allah help you though this transition. Ameen

I really can't grasp you're worry - Do you live in a predominately Christian country? or Muslim?
Living in Australia religion is something sacred to oneself and fellow worshippers - and the workplace don't even care to know about it, unless you bring it to work which is a big NO! NO !
Unless your skills will suffer, or you have some sort of overnight personality transplant because of it - you have nothing to worry about!

Sister i suggest you keep your positive outlook.

Be positive, be nice and be tolerant of people if they show u disrespect to the extent that you may not be able to do your daily work.

If your boss is an open minded man I doubt he will mind, but its a matter of controversy nowadays. Muslims attract a lot of attention where ever they go.

A lot of people look down on us, thinking were fools.

A lot of people think we come from the same kind of education Al-Qaeda's militants do.

A lot of people think its okay to voice their disapproval in some manner and a lot of people...are simply scared.

I dont see this situation improving any time soon.

The media does its share...and ignorant peeps who go about protesting every little thing, arent helping either.

but were still good people...we do our jobs right...we are honest....and we work hard. I dont think your boss would mind at all.

Keep up your good spirits and insha'Allah God will be your supporter and source of peace.

Oh and find other muslims in the area you feel close to...allow people to give you some consolation and understanding through faith.

First of you must consider that you are not going to follow a cult or a popular trend but complete submission to a code of life but gradually in the way as per required tennents of Islam. The more you practice, the more attractive it shall become but basis should be that you are submitting to will of Allah regardless of anybody's displeasure. If you shall have policy in your perspective, either you problems shall be minimised or your difficulties shall be a source of solace and satisfaction for you that sufferings are merely in the path of Allah. All religions teach love for all and hatred for none, you cannot be good muslim unless you pray for those who create difficulties for you.How much the companions of the holy prophet of Islam suffered at the hands of the enemies of Islam, is long and dreadful story but this could not impair their steadfastness, which is basically needed to combat other things become minor when you enter the boat.If a religion cannot provide to yourself the courage, confidence and conviction, it is not worth accepting. These can be imparted only by the true revelation from God.Other religions were true revelation at source but mutilated lateron as they were for that age.Only Islam is to prevail as the revelation of code of practice completed with Quran.

I can't imagine how it's any of your coworkers' or bosses' business what religion you are... unless you're, say, a Christian preacher! Then, being a Muslim WOULD be a problem.

If you're worried about co-workers treating you differently for being a Muslim, well, they must deal with it and respect your beliefs.

Your religious beliefs are YOUR business... no one else's. Remember that.

Congratulations of becoming my sister,
If the situation is unfavourable, Islam allows not to declare openly, but after sometime you may disclose when you feel its OK, or you become bold enough to face everything.
All difficulties in the way of Islam will make your level up always.
Allah Almighty loves the patient people and rewards more in hereafter, as you are striving in the way of Allah Almighty.
You will feel high self respect of your self in front of you, when you will become pure of evil acts.
May Allah almighty bless you his rehma and barakaat.
I'm proud of you my respected sister.
Ma'assalama.

..just before you convert it might be worth checking what
Jewish scriptures say about prophets:
- you would expect great prophets to make prophecies which are verified, preferably in their own lifetimes (Deuteronomy 18 I think)
Im not aware of Mohammad doing this in his own life, but havent read the various hadith. (I would discount prophecies carried out through means of one's own resolution and actions.)

Also what the christian gospels and epistles say about whether
a religious teacher, however decent a man he is, is or is not inspired by God. For instance, Paul says that fallen angels can masqerade as angels of light in order to deceive people, and you check out any teaching by comparing it with what has already been established. I find the suggestion that you will be blessed
if you kill people who convert out of Islam to christianity and other religions particularly objectionable, for instance, although that is the worst thing I read in Mohammed's teachings, and there are some wise things in what he says, which are congruent with the picture of God already established.
Islam stands if Mohammed's claim that the Jewish
and christian scriptures are corrupt is true, as he is claiming to
have received revelation from an angel from the God of Abraham,
Jacob and Jesus; gaining his authority from those religions but at
the same junking them. You can check out whether some
stuff like Isaiah are corrupt as it was found with those Dead Sea
scrolls, so you can compare later versions copied in
Mohammad's times with earlier versions. I have heard there are
some differences, but not affecting the broad meanings of passages, but you can check it yourself if you like.

Do you work as the pope, or the archbishop of canterbury?.. in which case there may be conflicts of interest..
Otherwise, unless you seek to impose any special practices or exemptions which are not allowed for in your conditions of employment..there should be no problem.
