It is just about living within your means.. it is totally possible to have a nice life on 1 military pay check. We have done it for 18 years and with 6 kids. When your dh is an E1 dont try and live like an E7, you will be sadly upset and you wont be able to keep up. I love being a stay at home mom as do our children. I make a menu, use coupons, buy things on sale. You can also be a child care provider in your military home, which is a great way to be able to stay home with your kids and earn an income.

I have a friend that her husband is in the military and her and another friend work different shifts and babysit each others kids while the other one works. They are not spending hardly any of his income, saving it all so when their husbands are out they will have quite a bit of money saved to buy a new house. Now, I give them credit, they are using their heads and there husbands are going to be so proud of them. In the mean time they are so busy they don't have much time to fret over their guy being gone.

I do not know, personally. I work full time and go to school full time. I would go crazy sitting at home all day. Plus my husband and I have expensive taste. But if you are having trouble and you want to stay at home look into taking a finance class. I know at our base they are always offering free classes on how to manage your money better.

There is no choice as the cost of childcare is a nightmare and my hubby is always deployed so i would be working to pay the childcare and the kids would have no quailty time with either parent

Contact your husbands unit commander, or even the Red Cross. I have been hearing there is programs that the government will help you out with, you shouldn't have to do this by yourself. Tell your husband thanks for the great job, my heart goes out to you. I surely wish I can help. Thanks to you I just joined "Soldiers Angel" maybe they can help you as well....GOOD LUCK
