I wouldn't waste the time of the military, if your going to join you should be prepared to go into combat, if your not prepared for that don't bother.

the best for your choice is the Navy, you can travel and if lucky only get as close to Iraq as the sea. But be advised any military service can end up with you in harms way, not just Iraq. You should probably not join. You wanna travel and meet people, become an airline flight attendant.

Hi, If you join the military you are going to get your turn in Iraq. The best place to be if you want to stay a good sistance form the front line might be the Navy. And let me make this clear... I am not attempting to say anything disparraging about the Navy at all. A bit of advice though. If you are going to go into the military I would get your college degree first. Then enter as an officer. Keep in mind though, if you go thru ROTC, they will try to teach you about a military that does not exist. It is ugly and difficult, but it can be the best thing that will ever happen to you. The day to day will annoy the crap out of you, but the on the whole you will never regret serving your country in any branch of service.

First of all those of you that think the Navy doesn't have people in Iraq, think again, a lot of us are doing tours there, as far as the Coast Guard goes, they have law enforcement detachments all over the gulf. Don't join the military thinking you won't be put in harms way, even if you're not on land, all of the branches face some kind of danger where they are. I hope you make the right decision.

Vladisvostak, Russia?
Sydney and Darwin, Astralia?
Singapore?
Fukeoka, Okinawa, Nagano, Tokyo (etc...etc) Japan?
Subic Bay, Phillipines?
Guam, Tinian, and Saipan in the Marrianas Islands?
Cochin, India?
Phuket and Phattya, Thailand?
Qing Dao, China?
Hong Kong?
Been to all of them, and were revisited 4 or more times, through the U.S. Navy. But, you will need to be stationed on a ship (preferrably smaller than a Carrier and larger than a Frigate) in Yokosuka, Japan. However, that doesn't not mean you won't see many different parts of the world on other bases or ships.
I've also had friends that were stationed in Europe (Spain and Italy) and they loved it so much that they preferred to go back there vs returning to the states.
Now, I usually try to talk people out of joining the service.. but if you are already thinking about it then your mind is basically made up. At times like these I try to offer the best advice to help people make the right decisions for them. Join the Navy and you will see the world.. I'm talking from personal experience. Plus, I saw all that in just 3 years.
If you have any more questions feel free to contact me...
PS I read someone comment about how it's not a shopping and liesure tour.. uh, yes it is. I spent a lot of money on art from the different cultures that I met. I have a caribou bone knife from Russia, a didgeradoo (musical instrument) from Australia, paintings from Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, metal and word art from India.. the list goes on and on. I also have Aussie wine, Russian Vodka (beats anything you have ever had hands down.. it is sooo smooth that it will knock you on your *** in just a few sips), and Japanese saki.
And the pictures! Good lord, I have so many that I have boxes and boxes on printed ones before I bought a digital camera and I also have files after files after files of the numerous things that I took pictures of. Jets taking off of carriers, other unique military operations, locals, animals, scenery, friends in the service.
That is another great part of joining.. the friends. I'm meeting up with a friend that I haven't seen in three years during the Mardi Gras.
take care and I hope this all helps!
one final thing, if you get the right job in the Navy (not a corpesman) you will never see the shores of iraq. if you gotta join, join the navy. good luck!

Well, you can't have you cake and eat it too. I will say this, the only branch where you are not likely to end up in Iraq is the Coast Guard. But, don't look the travel the world with them.

The Military is for people who wan't to protect their country, not travel. If you wan't to feel safe, then join the Navy or AirForce. The Navy isn't deployed as much, neither is the AirForce. The Army and Marines, get deployed the most.
Either way, you'll still get deployed to Iraq, eventually.

Serving is honorable no rely the rationalization. some do connect because of the fact that's their purely potential determination. Others do because of the advantages, which includes college training. Others because of the fact they fell into hassle and chosen the protection rigidity over penal complex. Others because of the fact serving is something they experience forced to do. that's extremely offensive to declare that people who're in it may no longer get "authentic jobs". An workplace interest is a procedures extra comfortable, and maximum folk civilians do no longer positioned our lives on the line while we pass to the workplace. i've got heard lots of fulfillment memories the place little ones devoid of function fashions joined the protection rigidity and that they got here out the different section more suitable, extra in a position and with unquestionably existence objectives. in my view, if the countless snobs in academia pulled their heads out of their pompous butts, and actually contributed extra suitable than lip provider to our united states of america, they might have extra comprehend for our protection rigidity besides.
