Tell them that due to problems with forged money orders, you will be happy to accept only a USPS money order. These are sold at, and more importantly, can be cashed at, any US Post office. When you get the money order, go to the post office and cash it. They will either give you the money, or tell you the money order is not valid. If it is good, ship the bike!!! If not, you are only out the gas to get to the post office!!!

Western Union and other Money orders (and bank checks) can be forged and your bank may not know for several weeks!!

If they are unwilling to send a USPS money order, do not make the deal!!

As long as you have CASH in hand; in other words, you must cash the money order FIRST before allowing the shipper to pick up the bike, then it's fine. You have the cash; nothing bad can happen then. The risk is all on the buyer at that point. Go for it, Mom!

Don't accept it. Have them use Paypal, or cash on delivery. Period.

If the person is reputable, they'll probably understand. However, the worst that can happen is that they walk away, and you have to find another buyer.

If it's too good to be true........
