If you're 5'4" and 130, you're in a healthy weight range.
Some tips:
1. Eat whole foods. Lots of vegetables, fruits and whole grains. They have high fiber and they fill you up.
2. Drink at least 8 8oz glasses of water a day. You'll be amazed at how you feel after a few days of doing it regularly.
3. Choose foods that are high in protein and low in sugar. If you must eat a snack on the go, try South Beach Diet bars. They're yummy and good for you. I'm not recommending the diet, just the bars.
4. Choose lean meats like chicken breast, fish, and at least 93/7 ground beef. They're more expensive but they're better for you.
5. Watch your portions!! We have no idea how much we're eating until we find out what a real portion is. For example, I don't eat cereal anymore. It's not worth the calories it takes to eat enough to keep me from being hungry 2 hours later.
6. If you must drink soda, switch to diet. If you drink Kool-aid, try Crystal Light. They make these little single packs that go in a bottle of water. Very yummy.

I used to spend lots of money on Jenny Craig, and i lost all the weight i needed. I can give you the tips they gave me (definitely works, tried and true)
(1)EXERCISE (you cant lose weight with out it). try riding a bike or taking long walks. if you don't have the time, try using stairs instead of elevators, it adds up.
(2)Drink only water, and lots of it. not only is water good for you, the calories in ice tea and other beverages add up quickly. occasional cups of coffee, tea and diet soda are okay also.
(3)Veggies/salads are free foods and you can eat as many servings as you like all day to keep you full. *Rule: try to stay away from dips, salad dressing, butter/margarine and other sauces as much as possible and don't add meat or cheeses to your salads. also stay away from potatoes and such starchy veggies.
(4)only eat one snack/dessert during the day. and keep it within reason (you can eat that cake!)
(5)eat what you want but keep the portions small, check the serving sizes on the boxes or use best judgment while eating out. fill up on veggies
basically they say to keep your daily intake of food between 1200-1400 calories a day and you should loose 2 pounds a week. then you when you get to your goal weight you start adding calories until you don't gain or loose weight anymore.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

fill up on healthy food, not junk food, everytime before you eat drink a big glass of water so you wont be as hungry, eat slowly so you get mroe full faster, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruits and veggies, work out for about 20-30 minutes a day but dont over-do it. that can be dangerous, and if you must have dessert try fat free or sugar free pudding or yogurt
good luck!

Exercise.Do not cut down on your diet without consultation from 'real professional' doctors. But i still think that exercising as the best way to reduce body weight. At the same time, it also builds up muscles that enhances your everyday live.
