My cat was sleepeing a lot for the past 2-3 days until finally today i carry her up to her food she seemed thristy, i figure she was walking funny because she had some kind of pain on her hips. Later i put her back on her bed and also put her bed in the floor so she doenst have to worry about jumping up and down since he bed is a director's chair with a huge blanket. She seems better now, i gave her a pinch of Ibuprofen! mixed with her food. I know it sounds crazy automedicating my cat cant be good, but after all these hours i cant get my vet in the phone and i have no other to go in this town. So she is actually walking now looking for me and all, she went to pee which is good because she havent gone for these two days. Does this behavior related to diabitis? she had a blood work not too long ago and last i knew was that she was hard as a rock. Does this illness comes up from one month to the other? what could this be? Any vets or experienced people that can help me with this? Thanks

Hi there again Alex...Ibuprofen is VERY TOXIC (POISONOUS) to cats--YOU NEED TO PLEASE RUSH HER TO AN EMERGENCY VETERINARY HOSPITAL--ASAP!! Cats cannot metabolize human medications and toxicosis and fatality ARE the end result. Please see the following article about ibuprofen dangers to cats: http://www.petplace.com/cats/ibuprofen-toxicity-in-cats/page1.aspx

In all honesty, it's quite difficult to give you accurate reasons as to why your cat may be feeling this way without physically seeing her. Everyone here including myself can only best guess as to the possibilities as there are many. ONLY an entrusted licenced veterinarian would be best to determine what may be causing your cat to feel not well and treat her respectively.

[edit] aspirin can also be poisonous to cats so the person "Maybe, maybe not" recommending this does NOT know what they are saying. See the following article about aspirin and toxicity in cats: http://www.petplace.com/cats/aspirin-toxicity-in-cats/page1.aspx

All human medications that are prescribed for cats are based on age, weight and overall health conditions as any dose can be lethal especially to an senior cat so even a pinch could be deadly if your cat's health is compromised.

If your cat was diabetic she would be drinking alot more then usual, urinating more and probably urinating outside the litter box.
Like everyone else has said, Ibuprofen is poison to a cat. If your cat didn't pee for 2 days she could be in serious trouble. If you can't get ahold of your Vet, try another one. But she really needs to see a Vet now.

Unfortunately you did make your problem worse with the ibuprofen - but if kitty only got a pinch, she will probably survive the ibuprofen. Kitty should be taken to a vet as soon as it is possible.

Toxic Dose
Varies with each medication and species. Ibuprofen is toxic at 22-50 mg per pound of body weight.

Make sure that she has water available and encourage her to drink. Until you can get to a clinic trust the instincts of your cat, if she needs rest, let her rest. If she wants water give it to her. If she refuses food, offer it again later...

Do not force any more human pain medications on her as none will "cure" her, they will only mask symptoms...

Most importantly, do not feel bad for doing what you thought was best. Obviously you care deeply for this animal, make sure to give yourself a break...

Considering the info, diabetes would be my first guess... especially since you indicate blindness and unwillingness to use hind legs. She had possibly been diabetic for a while and you are seeing "sudden onset" complications of diabetes.

Best wishes...

i AGREE TO GET HER TO A VET NOW!!! Aspirin and other Human meds are poisonous to cats. The other symptoms could be the precursors to feline diabetes, or feline leukemia or a million other things, the point is she should be seen by a vet!! First because of the symptoms and the days they have been going on, and secondly because you have given her the Ibuprofen. Please seek help for her as soon as possible.

I would look up the phone number of the nearest emergency vet. It sounds pretty serious and she's only getting weaker (you said something has been wrong for 2 or 3 days). Please get expert medical attention even if you have to drive an hour or two from your home.

I would say that you need to get her to your vet as soon as possible. If it gets worse then you might want to take her to the emergency vet. These symptoms don't sound very good.
