If you and your doctor have a good relationship they will not put you in a hospital right away. They will talk with you to find out how serious you are. They will ask questions like: How often do you think about it? Do you have a plan? If the doctor thinks you are in immediate danger he will admit you. If he thinks otherwise he will probably recommend counseling and medication. Hospitalization can be very helpful. You may not see that now but later on down the road you will look back and say that you really needed that help. I know that I have felt that way before.
I would recommend talking to your doctor about how you are feeling. There are ways to help you get through this. The first step is reaching out for help.
As far as cutting goes you can try putting an ice cube on the spot where you feel like cutting and it usually has the same sensation.
Hope you feel better.

Please do talk to your Dr. and to your parents, sweetie. With adults, it doesn't automatically mean they'll put you in, but with a teen, that may be different. A lot of people have such a distorted view of what a "mental hospital" looks like. Let me explain, as I have been in before. The Television only shows mental institutions. They are different from A pshyciatric unit of a hospital.
A Pshys. Unit is just a unit in a hospital, that looks just like another wing of the hospital, actually only nicer. People are walking around in there street clothes, not the little hospital gowns.Being in the hospital is helpful because they can start you on a antidepressant if you need it, and you can be some what stable before you are released. They'll help you set up a support system for yourself for when you get out. They'll make sure your family is there to support you also. They are on your side.
As far as the cutting, they'll help you understand why you do it. There are many reasons why we cut. It's possible they can help you find a support group. There are support groups on line also.
Try healingwell.com and selfhelpmagazine.com
these both have forums and chat rooms. Please take care of yourself and talk to your parents or your DR.

More than likely, the doctor will first try you on meds and some counseling. If the suicidal thoughts continue, then action could be taken. I am sorry that you feel so bad, but there is no reason for you to continue to suffer when there are simple medications that can take the pain away, and help you with any problems that you may have. If you don't trust your doctor, talk to your parents or a really close friend. Those who love you, don't want you to suffer either. Good Luck!!!!

Sweet little girl. STOP RIGHT NOW. You need to call a friend or a hot line for some help to get through NOW. Hot lines are anonymous & professional. I know exactly where your coming from, everything seems hopeless at this moment. But, tomorrow will be better. I know. My 14 yr. old gr.daughter is very bi-polar. She gets that from me. She was having a very hard time with everything in life, so she spent Christmas in the hosp. Dr.'s adjusted her meds & she is so happy that she went. Being in the hosp. isn't a hell hole, it's a way out of the hell your in now. Those were her words. Honey, tell Auntie, Grandma, or some adult that you feel safe with, if you can't talk to your parents. Please just talk to a adult that can help you, or just listen to you. If nothing else we can im each other. Maybe I can listen & this Nana can help you figure out something for now. Baby girl, EVERYONE hated being 13. I'll look for your response. GET HELP NOW

Be honest with the Dr. and get help for the problems you have. If he did commit you it would be for a very short time (a few days) and you would get intense therapy and a break from the pressures of the world. Just becuase someone is commited means no more than that person just needed a little extra help. Remember that no one is perfect and everyone has something. Most likely though he will treat you for depression, just be careful with the SSRI class of drugs, it can help create suicidal Ideations. If you are self hurting you might just need intense talk therapy to work through your emotional pain on the inside. Self hurting is a common way people "control" the pain inside.

I'm sorry that you're feeling this way. It's not uncommon for a person who is very depressed to think about suicide. In fact, I bet that a lot more people think about it than they'd admit to. Psychiatrists and therapists are used to hearing clients talk about thoughts of suicide and I'm sure your doctor won't automatically admit you to a hospital just because you say that you think about it.
It's really important that you talk to your doctor about these thoughts so that you can get to the root of the problem and figure out why you're feeling this way. By being open and honest you'll be able to sort out your problems and begin to feel better.
Take care of yourself and I hope things start getting better for you soon.

Probably not, but a mental hospital is not the worst place you can be. You will atleast have people helping you with your feelings. If you don't like your doctor, you should try to get a new one. Tell someone older who is on your side if they can help you get a doctor you feel comfortable telling everything to. It's important to be able to tell your doctor everything without fear.

Anything you tell a Doctor or a counselor is confidential unless the doctor or counselor sees that you are a threat to yourself and society. If you tell your Doctor that you want to kill yourself, they will have you backer acted. (Unsure if I spelt that right) Legally, they have to take action. Do you honestly think they will sit and listen to you tell them that you want to die and them not step up to the plate? If this is what you truely feel, you need to be admitted into a hospital or rehab center for help! Think of all the people you would be hurting if you ever hurt yourself! Get yourself some help, you need it!!!
