I feel that it can. Hormones in the body will fluctuate all through life. Which will cause times of depression which are normal. Often times now people give up on the idea that it is normal to feel bad sometimes and then move on. Also until more people start looking in to why they are depressed treatment will be with medication only. The food we take in has a lot to do with depression. I did a project in one of my classes that asked " Does the diets that American have effect how depressed they are?" My teammate and I asked 150 people at a mall what was their diet like? Did they exercise? What was their favorite food? How would they describe their eating habits? Would they prefer water or a soft drink with dinner? Had they ever had times where they felt down and out? Had they ever been diagnosed with depression? Did they have health problems?

Once we got all of our information we found that nearly 87 percent of the people we questioned had very poor diets eating habits and either felt depressed more than five days a month or were on medication for depression.

I wish you the best in your class.

the permanent cure for depression does not exist. everyone experiences depression at one point or another and to varying degrees. it is well documented that people who live in parts of Alaska deal with depression every year. When daylight lasts for 6 months at a time it is hard to sleep, and when winter lasts just as long it can be equally depressing. for those of us who have 8 hours of sleep time and 16 hours of daylight, depression is found in other forms. a parent, child, sibling, friend or someone you have an attachment to dies. what now? depression of course. no one wants to lose anyone. depression comes on without such drastic measures as a death also. a favorite pet runs away, a valued piece of jewelry is lost, a sad movie is watched, and on and on. depression is a part of life. some suffer greatly from it as others deal with it only seldom. the question is ... what are some ways to deal with depression? the understanding of it can help with dealing with it in a more positive way but I'm sorry to say there is no cure.

it depends on the type of depression u have... if it is work related or situation related then if the situation changes then yes depression can be permenantely cuted if it's a true mental depression then it would depend on meds and counseling.. i went through a deep depression with suicidal thoughts a few years ago and was placed on meds and in counseling so it really depends i stopped taking my meds about a year ago and have not felt the need for them since that time but it just depends on the person and the situation that is causing them depression

Situational depression (like someone dying) can be releaved.
Clinical depression is a condition of the mind where the chemical neurotransmitters are not properly being kept or used, this can never be cured and must be treated with therapy and medication.
Some forms of depression like post-partum are temporary and therefore can be treated with medications for a limited time and then the patient can go off of the meds and be fine.

Depression can be caused by different things such as f x a bad life experience such as maybe rape of death of someone close, then by working through the experinces and "get over" them its possible to cure the illness.

Depression can also be part of your personality and have been inherited, then its much harder to cure it since theres no direct "cause". Then maybe medication or therapy from time to time is necessary throughout life.

Well considering there is so many different sorts of Depressions out there, I don't think its something can be cured, because its in the blood and mind. Its a incurable disease.

I think it depends on why you're depressed, if it's stress or lifestyle that can be changed. If it's a chemical imbalance taking the med's and making lifestyle changes help but I don't believe it can be cured. I believe it's something a person learns to cope with and needs the knowledge to keep them self in a "good" mental space.

Of course it can. If the patient wants to get better. With the therapist help, the patient can discover the reason for the depression and learn how to deal with it and live without medications. You just have to be willing.
