I AM A WOMAN WRITING THIS
Christians are supposed to believe the Bible. Not try to make it say what WE want it to say. Don't just say "I think" or "I believe it says" or "it can't mean..." The Feminist movement did not change what God's intentions were when He inspired the writing of His Word.
When is the last time you did a BIBLE STUDY on the role of man and woman the way that God created them? Here is what the Bible says. This is based on all of the Bible, not just one verse
that makes me feel good.
Yes, Paul was saying that women should be silent in the church.
There were always cultural situations going on that caused the writers of the Scriptures to write what they did. Yes, probably at that time, the churches were dealing with loud women. They dealt with sin in the church (adultery, stealing, lying, etc.). And if we handled those situations today like Paul handled them back then, we would win more people to Christ because our churches would actually mirror Christ's image instead of that of the world.
The Bible is God's timeless Word to us. He didn't just change what He expects of us and not tell us. The ideas in these verses is never recanted-never taken back. In fact, here is another verse that will get your back up.
1 Timothy 2:11-14 "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not (do not allow) a woman to TEACH, nor to USURP AUTHORITY over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being DECEIVED was in the transgression."
If you are a woman reading this and you are not a Bible-believing Christian woman who really wants to DO God's Will and not just be "more spiritual" you will be very offended by this Bible Study. But this is what the Bible says IN ITS ENTIRETY on the subject.
God set up the order of headship: God, Jesus, Man,Woman
It's all about the nature of man and woman. Eve was the first woman. Because she was an EMOTIONAL creature, the serpent approached her to DECEIVE her.
Satan did not approach Adam because he is a RATIONAL creature. He would have said, "No. God said not to eat the fruit and I will NOT!" (Men are like that. They'll so "no" just to prove that they are in control. God made them that way)
Eve was deceived because she rationalized with her heart, "Oh, then I would be knowing spiritual things like God..and I could know the future...and I could clean house just by saying it....etc..." (1 Timothy 2:14 "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.") Eve was the first one who sinned.....setting the stage for the rest of us. So we (women) have to learn a lesson from Eve and be on guard against deceit for the rest of our days. How best to do that than to give control over to our men and let them make those mistakes?
And because Eve was DECEIVED, Adam fell because he would do anything for his woman. When it came to his woman, he didn't even think twice. The Bible never says that Adam was "tempted, " only that "...when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." Genesis 3:6 He just ate it-apparently, no questions asked. He believed her. Woman is man's weakness.
When a person is DECEIVED it is with the lie.
When a person is TEMPTED it is with the truth-otherwise it would be DECEIPT.
Check out Matthew 4 when Jesus was tempted. Everything that Satan told him was true.
Now, why would God allow Eve's sisters (us) to continue deceiving men by claiming to hear God's voice (when we could be hearing Satan's voice) or claiming to know God's will? God's Will is that the man would answer directly to Him-not to the woman. If Eve would have just left the fruit alone, Adam would have not been shamed. But women are always trying to act more spiritual, gain more spiritual insight, be more spiritual than their husbands. This is exactly what God does not want. Not because women are not capable, but because we are easily deceived (it's in our genes...) So because of this, God set up the system: God, Jesus, Man, Woman.
The woman going over the man's head is the same as Jesus going over God's head. It was never meant to be. The chain of command was established long ago. It is not to keep women oppressed. There is perfect freedom in serving God and being comfortable in the role that he has ordained for you. But the WORLD would sell you a different bill of goods.
When we live by God's system, things go a little smoother:
* Genesis 12 Sarah lied about being Abraham's sister (because he told her to) and they lived. Later, the Bible calls her righteous because she obeye her husband.
* Esther did not go over her husband's (the king's) head to save her people. But she humbled herself submitted to his rules and they all lived.
* etc.
Face it, when women take control, things don't always turn out right. Now, men do louse things up, too. But, then they have to answer to God for that. We (women) have to answer to God-not for messing things up, but for taking control when control was not given to us.
I am a woman and I have studied God's Word on this issue. When we take the entire Word of God and apply it, we will see that God's plan is in our best interest. What a pressure is taken off of us because we do NOT have to make those decisions that our husbands have to make.
God gave men what they need to succeed in being men. God gave women what they need to succeed in being women. We need not try to steal what the other has.
Women are emotion. Plain and simple. God made us that way so that we could care for our children and our homes. But God doesn't need emotions steering the ship. He needs Godly men who will lay their lives down for their families and Godly women who will stand by their men through thick and thin.
TITUS 2:3-5
"Likewise, teach the older women to be REVERENT in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to LOVE THEIR HUSBANDSand CHILDREN, to be SELF-CONTROLLED and PURE, to be BUSY AT HOME, to be KIND, and to be SUBJECT TO THEIR HUSBANDS, so that no one will malign the word of God."
This is the only place in Scripture telling us that God allows women to TEACH and that is for the older women to teacher (train) the younger women how to do their jobs. Women-this is your job description.
The verse in question here is not about whether women are as good as men or whether they should have a voice like men. God love us all equally. The issue is this: God's Word says it. Paul wasn't being rebellious when he wrote this and put in something that God didn't ordain. It is consistent with all of the other teachings in God's Word concerning the role of women.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that MARRIAGE in this day and age is in the terrible shape it is in because women try to be in control where they have no business being in control.
Those who would take one verse from the Bible and try to get it to mean something that it is not intended is WRONG. And if you are a Christian and you do this, you are putting a strumbling block in front of those that do not know any better.
THERE ARE SO MANY LIES in the answers to this question, YET no one had relevent Scripture to back up what they were saying.
Proverbs 13:16 "Every prudent man acts out of knowledge, but a fool exposes his folly."
And just for the record: There are bodies of believers who practice these mandates today. They are small groups of people meeting together in house-churches because they are tired of the disobedience and rebellion that goes on in mainstream churches. They teach their children to respect authority, they honor their respective roles and men and women, and they study the Word of God as if their life depended on it. They know that the Bible does not always make things easy for Christians-in fact sometimes it's a down-right struggle. But that's where faith comes in. And these believers are faithful. It is possible to obey the Word in all of the ways that it differs from "normal" society. In that, we are called a "peculiar people."
1 Peter 2:9 "But ye are a chosen generation, a ROYAL priesthood, an HOLY nation, a PECULIAR people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;"

From what I understand, this was not that women should never speak "lets tape their mouths shut" sort of doctrine. In the Corinth church the worship services were chaotic, and one part of this was the women not dressing or acting modestly. Paul spends a couple of times, including this verse, attempting to correct them. This doesn't mean they can't talk at all, they just can't speak unless they have something of value to mention. Questions and minor comments can wait until later. He does encourage women to speak, for example: "When Paul says that “the others” should weigh what is said (v. 29), he may mean the
entire congregation or the other prophets—either of which would have included females. Keener
suggests that the “others” who weigh (diakrin) the prophecies would be people with the gift ofdiscernment (diakrisis) (12:10), but he notes that nothing suggests that only males are given this
gift." This is a comment on the verse: 1 Cor 14:29 - Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.

well, look at how they change their tune... the rest of the time is that "The bible says homosexuality is bad" and "God told his people to go forth and convert the masses". how quickly they change it to "That's a thousands of years old law, and only came from a different country, not ours... nothing to do with us." If you read further into the bible, rape is not just accepted (as long as the silver coins keeps coming), but it's openly celebrated! Judges 21:10-24. God commands his warriors to commit mass wholesale slaughter of a village. women, children, men... anyone not a virgin woman it seems. and they'd then kidnap the 400 virgin women and pass them off between each other as unwilling wives. it goes on to say that there weren't enough crying rape victims for every man in the army, so god told them to hide in the vineyard and wait for the hidden village women to come out and dance, wherein they would kidnap THEM too, rape them and make them into MORE unwilling christian wives! happy marriage! Numbers 31:7-18 is basically the same thing, only this time they robbed the place as well. took the wealth of the city, slaughtered it's kings in battle, kidnapped the women and children.... and then their leader commanded them to kill each captive that wasn't a virgin.... because they would be the wives. Mazeltuv. Deuteronomy 20:10-14 More rape, More pillaging, More plundering and murdering... Were Christians basically vikings? Deuteronomy 22:23-24 This one's fun. If a man rapes a woman who is betrothed to another, they BOTH get executed. obviously it's not about what's right and wrong, but the woman being property and that property being violated. Exodus 21:7-11 To pimp one's daughter out as a sex slave for money. here are the rules of the game. These are just a few of the fun rape related citations. now, if all these things are just ancient and outmoded laws, NOT to be heeded or followed, then why don't you all REWRITE IT!

Paul is calling the women to be silent in church, so that they can learn what God is teaching. Maybe it's saying, don't call out across the church to your husbands ( a cultural issue at the time?), inquire later about what it is you don't understand. It is actually encouraging the women to be calm and take in the Gospel, creating an environment where they can learn from the Word of God as well as the men.

This was written at a time right after women were allowed to be a part of the worship service, with the men. Before that they had to go to a different room and were not allowed to question anything.
When they were finally allowed to join the men as equals, they had so many questions since they were far behind in their education, that their questions took over the service. They were being asked to ask their husbands for these answers at home.
Paul did not write this passage. It was common at this time to write in the name of another.

This is in reference to a "problem" they were having in a specific church at that time, and the problem was gossip. It was even stated that it was "better for an unmarried woman to marry and have children to keep herself active in the Lord's work, so she wouldn't have time to get herself in trouble," however, THIS IS NOT MEANT FOR ALL WOMEN! If you continue reading the New Testament, you can see where there were Deaconess' (Romans 16:1 "I commend unto you Phoebe our Sister, which is a servant of the Church which is at Cenchrea" ALSO "3 greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus 4 Who have for my lie laid down their own NECKS; unto whom not only I GIVE THANKS, BUT ALSO ALL THECHURHES OF THE GENTILES" 5 "likewise greet the church that is in their house") and other high ranking Churh officials at that time in the New Testament, showing that women, who at that time were 75-80% of ALL CHRISTIANS, were indeed an important force in Christs work!!!
What Christ was inspiring them to write through the Holy Spirit was simply that, HE as Head (and Husband) of the Church, and (Men, as Heads of the family) should be inspired by how HE treated he Church and treat their wives accordingly, with gentleness and Love! Christ never mistreated his Bride, the church and a man should never mistreat his wife!

This is a good illustration of the sexual bias of the writers of the Bible. They treated women as second class citizens. The Bible also condoned slavery and obedience to authoritarian governments. These attitudes are typical for politically backward societies mainly because they were ignorant of other possibilities. You have to remember that religions reflect the attitudes of the cultures that develop them and do not come from some superior being.

Do some research online and you'll find your answer. This verse wasn't written by "God". It was written by someone who had very strong (and unhealthy) opinions about women.
There are TONS of crazy bible passages that make absolutely no sense for our time and culture. Many of them have to be taken into context of the history, time and culture of the people who wrote them.
If you want some real shockers, check out Leviticus and it's rules about people who eat shellfish, who wear cotton/polyester blends, and what you should do to your kids if they misbehave. If you do any of these things, the Bible suggest you should be stoned to death. Not exactly a good idea to follow this in our culture....unless you want to spend the rest of your life in prison.

First of all you are overlooking the time frame in which it was written, and secondly it is talking about women deacons/preachers. In today's time, they may teach Sunday School though.

Women were gossiping and Paul called them out. He told them to kept quiet because they had less or more like no education that the men had when it came to scriptures . It doesn't apply to women these days.

Pretty straight forward if you ask me. Simple instructions on conducting an orderly church service. It is not intended for the rebellious unbeliever. God's only message for them is this: "Repent - change your thinking and way of life - and believe the Gospel."
