Most sites allow you to set up a profile and search for free, but most of the ones I've checked out require payment to contact other members. Try using MySpace and search for people who are there for dating.

This is are really great site you can take quizzes for free and find out things that you did not know about yourself...invite your friends to be in your network. And you can search for people that are compatable to you based on the answers to the quizzes.
Also, check out Facebook...you can join groups and invite people to be your friend that live in you area, go to your school, work with you etc. and if you like someone you can message them.

There are a fair few. They will be exciting for you in the beginning and then you will become disillusioned with the people on them and give them all the flick after some time. The old fashioned way is so hard but it is the best way by far.
