How can I tell if my computer will support speakers with subwoofers?

My dad told my that some computers support them, and some dont, so i was just wondering how i can tell if mine does or not.

Subwoofer can be added to existing systems, so I'd say your dad's wrong. I've had ANCIENT 8-bit soundcards and I connected a 2.1 (stereo speakers + subwoofer) speaker system to it with no problem. In fact, I am still using that 2.1 system today. :)
