Tramadol or Ultram is a non narcotic analgesic that has an effect on the opoid receptors in the brain. It interferes with the reuptake of serotonin and shouldn't be taken with antidepressants for that reason. It also can cause seizures in some susceptible people when combined with other medications.Since it is not an NSAID it can be taken to relieve the pain of Arthritis and relieve pain without the side effects of aspirin, Ibuprofen, or other of the NSAID category of drugs.

Tramadol doesn't just contain a narcotic.... it IS a narcotic! :) It belongs to a group of drugs called opiate analgesics.

But do not fear. Not all narcotics are bad. That's a misconception. Narcotics have helped a lot of patients deal with physical pain and improved quality of life. As long as you do not ABUSE it, then all is well.

Besides, tramadol is a mild narcotic. It is used to relief moderate to moderately severe pain, for example after surgery and cancer pain. However, being a narcotic, it has its addictive effect. Do NOT take the dose larger or longer than prescribed by the doctor! Also do NOT stop taking tramadol suddenly. Always follow the doctor's instructions.

yes, it does but not with the side affects as other narcotics. I have on going chronic pain, and my doctor put me on it because of long time need.

no it is a synthetic painkiller with no relation to morphine.
however if you are a recovering addict DO NOT TAKE TRAMDOL as it can trigger INTENSE cravings for the real stuff.
