A person (or country) can not be loved by all. There are those who believe they were better off without the us stepping in.
In South Korea, people weren't really angry, and didn't really hold that against us (unless you're a member of North Korea).
In Europe, they did what was neccesary in WWII, and that is not really held against them.
For Afganistan and the other Middle East countries, well, there were many people who liked it the way their country was. Civil Wars have been going on there for years, and the people are best off solving the problems themselves, without such a large infiltration of U.S. troops and involvement. America also did plenty of damage to buildings and waterlines, etc.
In Chile and Argentina, many people followed the dictators and believed the 'bad' dictators were 'good' dictators.
In Africa, some of the rich, government officials hate the U.S., while many civilians live in terror of their own government. It is very complicated there, but many people thank the U.S., even if many hate it.

When we help people, we also hurt a lot of people in the process. Also, America never operates with a no strings attached policy. We help countries and in turn expect them to help us out, or change so that they are more like us or can benefit us. This can cause other nations to resent us. We often make our own rules. We seldom ratify treaties, and don't always take into account the best interest for whatever nation we are helping.
America is considered a Christian country, so radical religious groups hate our country based on that fact alone. They see the sex, drugs, scandal, and greed pouring out of the press and hate us for being so morally reprehensible.
Additionally, there is a great deal of jealousy amongst 3rd world and developing nations. They want to be rich and prosperous like the Americans they see in the news. They think the whole country is rich and fat and have no problems, so they idolize us, but also despise us.
At least this is my perception as an American who grew up in Kenya.

Fortunately everyone does not hate America. Only those who are misinformed or deceived continue to hate America. You mentioned Serbia. Interesting. Serbs absolutely love America but to this day they are absolutely flabbergasted that Clinton bombed them. We know Clinton did this to take the focus off Lewinsky. But the Serbs who are close to the Russians are totally beyond belief that the USA would have done what they did. It set back Serbian American relations light years. I suspect we will have a lot more cooperation between the Serbs and the Russians for a long time to come. As for the French, go figure.
As for Islamic countries, they are not interested so much in freedom as they are living in an Islamo Fascist State. Islam of course is both a religion and a civil code. Western values that oppose slavery, sex between adult males and prepubescent females(Pedophilia), spousal abuse(wife beating) and tolerance in general(Christians and Jews have been required to pay extra taxes in Islamic States) are frowned upon by the Koran.
But in spite of all these and other differences the USA is still the most sought after country for immigration in the world. So there you are.

I go overseas every year for as short as 3 weeks to 2 months. I don't hear hate against the US, I hear more questions about why does the US want to go into another war? or is Bush going to stay in office? All those countries are very close together..one reason they speak so many different languages in each one. If they don't feel threatened by these countries we are going into they wonder why we do.
These are people that have lived in a war, have had their homeland bombed and fighting in their streets...they don't take advancing on a country lightly.
Have we really "solved" the turmoil in so many countries?
Where do we draw the line on "freeing" a country from themselves?
I support our American troops, but I don't support going into a country without more talking and more true information. We have enough problems here on our home front to take care of as far as freedoms go.....we can't even solve our own security/boundries and democracy here? yes, we are here typing what we want to but others have the same right...and they have strikes too...but our politicians just pass new laws to take more of our freedoms.

Because our politicians rep and dem alike over the years, continue to treat these countries poorly even after they recover from what ever event we helped them with. It is almost a superiority complex our government has towards these countries. Imagine the kid who helps you out in school continues to treat you like an ignorant little tyke, you would become resentful too. Our government does not want to let them have an equal say, or acknowledge they are not inferior in some way. I love this country, but the two party system and the politicians in it are sometimes tough to swallow.

Iran's government hates America. Many Iranians are angry at their government at the moment. As for Iran cheering after 9/11, I have heard a different story.

for all the good we have done we have done alot of bad things... in our fight with the russians during the cold war we supported the afganis when they had driven out the russians we turned our back on them (leading to the taliban goverment) during the french revolution when frances asked for our support we did not give it to them, the CIA has done some bad things in the past but acts of congress have limited there powers, during the Iran Iraq war in the 80s we played both sides. people still hate how we handled vietnam. they also hate our foriegn policy which interferes with soverign nations rights we get in there balliwaks
but then again europe owes us for two world wars when we bailed them out, they owe us from the Cold War by being there to support them with Nato (europe alone could not have with stood russia withou our support), we helped the S. Koreans stay independent from N. Korea. weve fought most of our present day allies atleast once (britian twice that i know about)
teddy rosevelt said "walk softly and carry a big stick" well weve gone through the 20th century with a big stick but we didnt walk quietly by any stretch of the imagination. weve stepped on peoples toes playing the holier-than-thou card and its pissed people off

America is mostly a country of the unbelievably stupid, naive and ignorant.
However, it has become rich and powerful because of a land rich in natural resources (taken with much bloodshed from the natives) and because of a small minority of brilliant scientists and intellectuals who are held in contempt by the majority who take advantage of their achievements.
America has been so provably wrong on so many issues it is absurd and they are too stupid to see it.
1. They now talk about solving the problems of the Middle East after voting in a president who initially said the rest of the world didn't matter to Americans (and wanted to pull out of the Palestinian/Israeli peace process- the Palestinian situation being a prime recruiting sergeant for terrorists)
2. They ignored the rest of the world who warned that they should take stock and plan before invading Iraq (and many of these supported eventual military action.
3. They said they don't believe in Global Warming (the fact that they would ignore their own Academy of Sciences shows how anti-intellectual they are).

America is the most prominent and powerful nation. How many people love their boss? Very few.
In primate societies the game is to bring down the reigning Alpha male, America is just that "Alpha male". The world is just acting out like a vulgar bunch of gorillas or baboons would act; but there is nothing unusual about it is just our "human" nature which is genetically 98% chimp.....
