I have 2 of each and from experience I can say that the cats are just as loyal and protective as the dogs are.
The dogs are defineately more demanding of my time and energy but the cats are always there watching.
If I raise my voice at one of the dogs my female cat comes to my rescue. She plants herself between me and the dog I'm scolding and bats the air and hisses at him.
If someone comes to the door she growls and she's as protective of her dogs as she is me.If one of the dogs barks outside she runs to the door growling all puffed up like a little football ready to kick some serious butt.Once a stranger is inside the house she hides where she can keep an eye on things while going un-noticed.Now my male cat is more mellow and far more out-going but if there's a stranger in the house he's right there checking them out and making a general pest of himself. If he does'nt like someone he'll stay close-by me.Since we got the dogs I've noticed if someone comes (say a repairman)and they make my male cat uncomfortable he goes and alerts the dogs and they raise a huge fuss while he goes between me and wherever I've closed the dogs up flicking his tail repeatedly. But if the cat seems comfortable then he goes away and lays down somewhere.
The dogs of course are much larger and better able to defend themselves or us from danger than the cats. But the cats do their part in my house anyway.
If I'm sick they're all in bed with me or on the couch and none will leave me.

Dogs for sure is my experience. I have 3 cats, and they tend to keep to themselves, you will get the odd cat that will be loyal, but for the most part they are not.

As far as dogs go you will not find one more loyal than a Boxer.

I own 2 cats and 4 dogs. They are all equally loving and loyal. It just depends on how they are raised.

Collie for six years -necessary to be worked, in case you get an excellent one they are large yet they might grow to be unusual ie chew human beings if the temper takes them. Border terrier - fab little dogs yet fiesty and can be iffy with different canines particularly in case you have a 2nd dogs. Fell/ Patterdale - large relaxing, yet no longer constantly the brightest. in spite of the undeniable fact that unswerving and extremely a chortle! Staffies - organic brred ones large, unswerving and extremely loving yet may be iffy with different canines - had a pair now and comprehend that socialising them with different canines is complicated, additionally they incorporate undesirable press yet like little ones they are what you're making them. Staaf crosses can matter on what they are crossed with so pick one which is bred with something docile. shame you had a foul journey with a lab as often they are extremely good, yet watch the burden on them as they become older as they might get porky. Boredrs are large and stay to an excellent age often - evaluate yet another border! Waht else have we had - oh confident the springer spaniel, wonderful dogs yet lots of capability so purely extremely evaluate while you're waiting to exercising plenty. a chum has an english bull terrier - the only one i've got had any dealings with and he's superb, yet lower back like little ones they are what you're making of them i think of. That covers what i've got had desire this facilitates.

I think dogs are the most loyal. And i have two cats, and i still believe dogs are most loyal. My kitties love me, but they would not protect me, and they don't trust me. They love when i play with them and pet them, and feed them, but that's it. They don't tolerate nail trims, checking teeth, or going ANYWHERE. I love my cats, but i still think dogs are more loyal companions.

with cats you have to work for thier love and as long as you provide some attention dogs love you no matter what! :) And dogs do, cause when there is a ghost or stranger in your house cats run away usually on a few do a couple hisses before running away but dogs bark until thier throat dries and attacks them trying to save your life

both are great. both fit great with different kinds of people. I've had cats that act like dogs play fetch and walk on leash. I've seen dogs that act a lot like cats as well.

There's a reason for dog's being called (wo)man's best friend, and that is because when you come home they greet you will a wagging tail and sometimes jumping with joy for seeing their mommy (in my case anyway); no cat I know of would do that because they think they're toooooooooooooooooo good.
