Pilate would not have gone to hell. He would be in trouble politically, so in that sense he would have wished he was in hell. And Jesus didn't have to die, He died because God knew what the people were going to do and did not stop them. This is my opinion only, and not necessary the teaching of the church.

The "Jesus" of the New Testament gospel stories seems to be a fictitious character. First of all, his name would've been Yeshua. According to the historical records of the day in which he supposedly lived there were many who bore the name of Yeshua. Some led religious revolts against the Romans and were eventually killed. Literally all of the stories of in the gospels are plagiarized from other religious texts and actually didn't come to us "whole cloth" as the writers would have us to believe. We actually can't be sure of his existence because of the human stain on the documents. It doesn't take long to see how myths are forged from other myths from Sumerian to Egypt to Greece and Rome as well as India, Iran and Iraq. I used to be a fundamentalist Christian but my conscience could not square with what I was trying to force myself to believe any longer. Once I began reading Paine's, The Age Of Reason, I understood my dilemma. That one book opened my eyes to the real truth.

he could've gone to hell for some other horrific act, but alas he did "wash his hands" of it, so to speak. he gave the people what they wanted, but he'll pay the price for not listening to his conscience. he had the power to stop it, yet didn't. the atonement and crucifixion was an integral part of Christ's mission on this earth. if pilate had refused to have Him crucified, someone else would have seen to it. it was part of the plan.

First of all he would have been replaced as Governor and placed in a very lowly position and he was not about to have that. You must keep the citizens happy and avoid riots. The Romans only pushed far enough to keep taxes flowing in. The sacrifice of some poor tradesman to please the crowd is nothing to them.

Be a serious historical blunder wouldn't it.
What if Jesus jumped off the cross and started throwing rocks at people or lightening bolts instead of dieing?

Pilate was a sellout. He did what the people wanted.

Another question that comes to mind is what would have happened to the Titanic if it hadn't sunk.
